Developed by Eric Heisserer, Shadow, and Bone is an American fantasy mystery drama streaming TV series developed for Netflix. The series is inspired by two sequels of books which are “Grishaverse” by Leigh Bardugo, the “Shadow and Bone trilogy, and the Six of Crows” duology. The first eight episodes of the series debuted in April 2021 followed by the second season also consisting of eight episodes was released in March 2023 nearly two years after the first season came out. So it looks like fans need to be patient until the third season arrives on the screens.
Will There Be a Season 3 of Shadow and Bone?
The series is loved by many and is one of the most popular shows on Netflix. Hence, it is most likely Shadow and Bone will be renewed for a third outing. Moreover, the showrunner Heisserer himself has previously revealed to Collider that he’s already had a plan in mind for the third season of the series.
The author Leigh Bardugo also shared that she has very high hopes for the Grishaverse, divulging Inverse that she’d “love to see us get another five seasons.” So with that said, Shadow and Bone are all set to continue till season 5. I mean that would be great if that happens for real!
Shadow and Bone Season 3 Release Date
As of March 2023, there’s been no official release date for the third season of Shadow and Bone. The first season was released on April 23, 2021. The second season premiered on March 16, 2023. And although the series has not been formally renewed, there’s been talks about a third season. So if we have to predict an air date, it is expected the new episodes will be out sometime in early 2025.

In season 3 of Shadow and Bone, we expect most of the main characters to return which includes–

- Freddy Carter will be back as Kaz Brekker
- Amita Suman in the character of Inej Ghafa
- Kit Young will play Jesper Fahey
- Archie Renaux will reprise his role as Mal Oretsev
- Danielle Galligan in the role of Nina Zenik
- Zoë Wanamaker will play Baghra
- Luke Pasqualino will play David Kostyk
We also expect to see Patrick Gibson as Nikolai Lantsov, Jack Wolfe as Wylan Hendriks, Lewis Tan as Tolya Yul-Bataar, and Anna Leong Brophy as Tamar Kir-Bataar.
Sadly, Ben Barnes as General Aleksander Kirigan / The Darkling will most likely not be back in the third season after what happened to him in the previous season finale. Nevertheless, there’s still a possibility of bringing him back through magic.
What to Expect in Season 3 of Shadow and Bone?
