Based on Leigh Burdugo’s Grishaverse books, Shadow and Bone Season 1 has become an acclaimed fantasy series on Netflix. However, it is not merely for those who have a liking for fantasy. In chapter one of the series, the protagonist, Alena Starvok is a teen orphan from a fictional land of Ravka, which resembles Imperial Russia. After discovering her powers to summon sunlight, Alena’s life finds a new purpose. There is a Shadow Fold, the region of darkness dwelling with hideous monsters, which Alena swears to fight against. Her magical abilities can rescue many lives.
After the premiere of season 1, viewers are keenly looking forward to its next installment. But unfortunately, Netflix has not hinted towards the release of Shadow and Bone Season 2 officially.
While it may take longer than expected for its next installment, here’s everything you must know about its plot threads, release date, and cast:
Shadow and Bone Season 2: Release Date
Shadow and Bone season 2 will officially arrive on Netflix once everything has been wrapped.
Shooting for the first season of Shadow and Bone began in October 2019 to March 2020 and due to Covid-19 related issues, the show was released after a year gap in April 2021. We hope that the second season releases as scheduled and does not have a long gap.
Creator, writer and producer Eric Heisserer said, “I’m honored and thrilled to return to the Grishaverse and continue the stories of these endearing characters, particularly Milo.”
He resumed, “I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly 10 years now, so I’m thrilled we get to keep this adventure going,” said Bardugo. “There are so many places we’ve barely gotten to visit and I can’t wait to introduce our audience to more of the saints, soldiers, thugs, thieves, princes, and privateers who make this world so much fun to explore. It’s going to be real magic to see our brilliant, talented cast expand.”
Shadow and Bone season 2 was renewed in June 2021. You can watch the renewal announcement below:
As of now, there is no official release date provided.
According to producer Shawn Levy via Collider: “Scripts written, heading into production shortly, in great shape, very much favorable to the characters in the world that we built and the Grishaverse that was put on screen in Season 1. But building out from there. Eric Heisserer is still at the helm as creator, showrunner and getting kind of dangerously close to heading into production.”
Filming and production might be wrapped by this year and if that happens we could expect Shadow and Bone season 2 to arrive maybe in mid-2022. That’s what we can predict so fingers crossed!
Shadow and Bone Season 2: Plot
Season 1 Shadow and Bone introduced the audience to a mixed universe of Leigh’s Shadow and Bone trilogy series and Six of Crows. Having said that, it is apparent that there is a lot of material available for season 2. Shadow and Bone chapter 1 portrayed Alina, Mal, Jesper, Zoya, Kaz, and Inej battling against the Fold. Following the separation of two groups, which leaves Alina and Mail go away in hiding, fleeing from their enemies. In this episode of events, Alina takes up this chance to become more powerful to wage her war against the Fold. While Kaz, Inej, and Jesper sail off to Ketterdam, where follies are awaiting their presence for failing to accomplish their task of beheading the Sun Summoner. Now General Kirigan, known as Darkling, has returned alive from the Force with powers that hold him in a superior position over monsters.
There is a possibility that the upcoming season will draw inspiration from Siege and Storm, the trilogy’s second book. In addition, the audience may witness fresh content while the story continues in line with the trilogy. Alina has to make tough choices between her powers and love, and the Grisha does not have a smooth sailing further. Like the previous chapter, season 2 may draw inspiration from several other short stories. Hoping that there is a world full of magic and adventures waiting for us.
Shadow and Bone Season 2: Cast
Casting for season 2 has begun and you’ll see new faces. If you have already read the book, you’ll know exactly who the new characters will be. Yes, Nikolai and Dyan will make their debut but it’s not yet revealed who’ll be playing these roles. As per reports, Toby Sebastian (Games of Thrones) has auditioned to play the character Sturmhond.
Presumably, you will see the old cast reprising their roles. The main characters around whom the story revolves will appear in their respective roles: Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, Ben Barnes as General Kirigan/the Darkling, Archie Renaux as Malyen “Mal” Oretsev, Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Amita Suman as Inej Ghafa, Kit Young as Jesper Fahey, Danielle Gilligan as Nina Zenik, Calahan Skogman as Matthias Helvar, Zoe Wanamaker as Baghra and Sujaya Dasgupta as Zoya Nazyalensky.
While you anxiously wait, Shadow and Bone is now available for streaming on Netflix.
