Plot of ‘The House in the Pines’
The upcoming feature film will take its audience through an introduction to Maya, a woman who long ago witnessed her friend’s sudden, mysterious death. Being unable to recover from her passing and with hazy memories, Maya has since spent her life trying to forget while tracking down answers on the occurrence. What she finally uncovers, deep in the woods, is hardly to be believed. When the incident happened, Maya was a high school senior when her best friend, Aubrey, dropped dead in front of a mysterious man named Frank whom they’d been spending time with all summer. Now almost seven years later, Maya lives in Boston with a loving boyfriend and is fighting off the secret addiction that has allowed her to cope with the death of her friend whilst still remaining unsuccessful in getting the complete truth on the incident. But her past comes rushing back when she comes across a recent YouTube video in which a young woman suddenly keels over and dies in a diner while sitting across from Frank, the mysterious man. Feeling a sense on connection between the two happenings, Maya heads to her Berkshires hometown where the summer incident took place, to revaluate the influence Frank once had on her and the obsessive jealousy that nearly destroyed her friendship with Aubrey. At her mother’s house, she comes across hidden messages in her deceased Guatemalan father’s book that didn’t stand out to her earlier and the entire matter seems coincidentally connected to Frank’s cabin, the house in the pines.
