“Pixels” ending explained (Spoilers ahead)
With his friend Will Cooper, 13-year-old Sam Brenner plays Donkey Kong in a video game arcade in 1982 and looks to lose against aggressive Eddie “The Fireblaster” Plant. Videocassette tapes of the event were placed in a time capsule that was launched into orbit. Brenner is a computer installation in the present, while Cooper is the unpopular President of the United States. While Galaga, an alien force striking from space, besieges Andersen Air Force Base on Guam, a soldier is abducted.
Cooper extends separate invites to Brenner and divorced U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Violet van Patten to the White House. Brenner resides at the home of van Patten. After watching the video footage and chatting with Ludlow “The Wonder Kid” Lamonsoff, Brenner concludes that the aliens are attacking Earth with a peculiar technology that enables them to change into the video games that are showcased at the tournament.
Ludlow and Cooper first get Eddie free from his fraud-related prison sentence in order to travel to New York City. A large alien Pac-Man who is acting as the ghosts there must be defeated by the team. Toru Iwatani, the creator of Pac-Man, calmly attempts to reason with Pac-Man but ultimately has his hand eaten off. Brenner, Ludlow, and Eddie complete the challenge using modified Mini Coopers, but Violet notices Eddie zipping around the board at supersonic speeds. When the effects of the power pellet wear off, Brenner can trick Pac-Man into following him. They win Q*Bert as their prize.
The aliens unleash a massive attack on Washington, D.C. using a swarm of video game characters and enemies. Cooper joins the crew as Ludlow stays behind to carry on the battle. Ludlow’s crush on the “Lady Lisa” video game character, who he’s admired since he was a young boy, appears as an alien. Ludlow persuades Lisa to support the humans and choose love while Eddie returns to the fray in an effort to atone. Lisa’s passing saddens Ludlow, but Q*Bert transforms into Lady Lisa. Brenner and Violet begin dating, while Eddie has the opportunity to meet Serena Williams and Martha Stewart. The aliens fix everything on Earth, including Iwatani’s hand, before they depart. Lady Lisa and Ludlow marry after a year and have children who resemble Q*Bert.
Is “Pixels” worth watching?
Despite a few sporadic anachronisms, the film Pixels is incredibly underestimated and has hilarious aesthetics and timing. There is also a subtext about the games of today. We need to move past that kind of behavior because Pixels, in its desire to appease 80s nostalgia, mindlessly fosters and glorifies an entitlement mentality that has caused harm in the real world. Many individuals are determined to dislike Pixels just because it exist due to its subject matter and celebrity. Even if you’re not a fan of 8-bit gaming or retro games, you should still check it out because it’s quite fun.
