Almost 35 years after its release, ‘The Killer’ is supposedly receiving a remake, this time with a new approach that will suit the modern audience. The 1939 classic narrated the story of Jeffrey, a hitman who joins Inspector Lee in a surprising duo as they track the gangsters that are determined to kill him. Upon its premiere, ‘The Killer’ received positive reviews from critics and was noted for its ability to combine Hollywood sequences with the traditional Chinese chivalry. The film was also pivotal in popularising John Woo’s (the director of the film) skills internationally.
The upcoming remake will also be directed by John Woo with the story resembling the original plot of the 1989 film. Joining John Woo in the crew are writers Eran Creevy, Josh Campbell, Matt Stuecken & Brian Helgeland. Evan Creevy is known for ‘Welcome to the Punch’, ‘Collide’ and many more. Josh Campbell is another established writer whose films include ‘Knights of the Zodiac’ and ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’. Matt Stuecken is a popular screenwriter whose works include ‘The Tower of Babble’. He also co- wrote ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ with Josh Campbell. Brian Helgeland has a number of notable works such as ‘Payback’, ‘The Order’ and ‘42’.
Omar Sy and Nathalie Emmanuel to Join the Cast
A fan favorite, Omar Sy is popular for his performance in ‘Lupin’, ‘The Intouchables’, ‘The ‘Takedown’ and other hits. Nathalie Emmanuel is another established actress whose popular works include ‘Army of Thieves’, ‘Fast X’, and ‘Game of Thrones’. Both the actors are rumored to be joining the cast for ‘The Killer’. Additionally, Sam Worthington and Diana Silvers will be performing in ‘The Killers’.
