Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free’s production company, pgLang is reportedly taking up a new project, a live-action comedy which will follow a young Black man who is interning as a slave reenactor at a living history museum only to discover later on that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his. The upcoming feature film is rumored to cast Jharrel Jerome and Paul Walter Hauser. Kendrick Lamar is a recognized rapper, songwriter and singer. Some of his popular songs include, ‘All the Stars’ and ‘Pray For Me’ from the original soundtrack album of Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Panther’, ‘Humble’ which was released in 2017, ‘Pride’ from the album ‘Damn’, and more. Dave Free is an award winning filmmaker who primarily works in the music industry and is credited with several of Kendrick Lamar’s music videos.
For the upcoming feature film, Jharrel Jerome will most likely play the lead Mike while Paul Walter Hauser will don the role of Rusty. Jharrel Jerome is a popular actor who is known for his roles in, ‘Moonlight’ which premiered in 2016, ‘Concrete Cowboy’ a Western Drama, ‘Full Circle’ a miniseries, ‘When They See Us’ which aired on Netflix. Paul Walter Hauser is another known artist whose works include, ‘Black Bird’ which premiered in 2022, ‘Queenpins’ a detective comedy, ‘Cruella’ starring Emma Stone and Emma Thompson, ‘I, Tonya’ which premiered in 2017 and more.

The upcoming project is yet to announce a title, yet, our sources suggest that the feature film is under development. Vernon Chatman will be composing the screenplay for the upcoming film while Trey Parker will be directing it. Vernon Chatman is known both as a writer and a producer and his works include, ‘Wonder Showzen’ a comedy, ‘The Heart, She Holler’ which ran for 3 seasons, ‘South Park The Streaming Wars’ which premiered in 2022 and ‘South Park’ which initially aired in 1997. Trey Parker is known as an author/ filmmaker and composer and was also a part of ‘South Park’. His other works include, ‘Team America’ which premiered in 2004, ‘Despicable Me 3’ which premiered in 2017 and more.
Joining Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free in the production crew for the upcoming feature film is Matt Stone. Matt Stone is known as an actor/ animator and his works include, Vernon Chatman and Trey Parker’s ‘South Park’, ‘BASEketball’ which premiered in 1998, ‘The Secret Pact’ which premiered in 1999 and more. pgLang will be joined by Park Country and Paramount Pictures for the development of this new project.
