Ever since Amazon renewed season 3 back in 2019, fans have been eagerly waiting for the CIA action thriller series to hit the screens. The series first premiered in August 2018, followed by a second season which was released in November 2019 on Amazon Prime Video. Jack Ryan was based on the Tom Clancy books.
The series has two seasons so far with a total of 8 episodes each. The previous season was well received by the audience for its outstanding performance and now die hard fans couldn’t help but wonder about the release for the next season. In the meantime, we have some production news for you.
Production news update
It seems production was halted as they were met with hindrances due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Showrunner Carlton Cuse also stated that several of the filming locations that the Amazon Prime Video series demanded proved to be quite challenging.
“It was logistically challenging to work on all eight episodes that we’re shooting on three continents with four different directors and often two – and sometimes three – crews shooting at once,” showrunner Carlton Cuse said (via The Hollywood Reporter).
According to TV Insider, Exec. producer Graham said, “We had to actually go to the places. We couldn’t cheat the audience.”
But yes, even after all the difficulties faced due to Covid-19, production for season 3 has resumed and going well, and once it is done, it will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Jack Ryan season 3 release date: When will it premiere?
Jack Ryan season 1 and 2 was released consecutively in 2018 and 2019 respectively. If Covid-19 hadn’t gotten in the way, production would have gone smoothly and we’d probably get to see the third season by this year but unfortunately, that’s not going to happen considering the delays caused by the pandemic. It’s such a bummer actually and if you’re disappointed, blame it on Covid-19.
Also, there’s no official news regarding the release date of Jack Ryan season 3 but we’re hoping that it will arrive in 2022.
Jack Ryan season 3 cast: Who’s returning?
The protagonist and as the CIA analyst Jack Ryan played by John Krasinksi will return to the show for the upcoming season.
Other characters whom we are expected to see on the screen for the third season are Wendell Pierce (as James Greer) and Michael Kelly (as Mike November).
We’ll likely get to see new faces on Jack Ryan Season 3 including Betty Gabriel, who will play the role of Chief of the Station as Elizabeth Wright, James Cosmo (His Dark Materials) will play as Luca, Peter Guinness (Chernobyl) will play as Petr, Nina Hoss (Little Sister) will play as Alena, and Alexej Manvelov (Before We Die) will play as Alexei.
Jack Ryan season 3 plot
In the previous season, Jack Ryan almost drowned himself in a bathtub, and we expect in season three the CIA agent will get involved in dangerous situations – although he’ll barely manage to avoid these situations.
Will Jack escape to Europe in order to stay alive and to avoid war while he’s being chased by an underground organization?
Showrunner Carlton Cuse on IndieWire told, “In the Clancy books, he goes from being an analyst in ‘Hunt for Red October’ to becoming the president of the United States and it felt like the sweet spot was in that moment where he goes from being an analyst to being an operative in the field for the first time.”
He further added, “That was the part that seemed the most traumatic and compelling. In our version, it’s kind of a prequel to everything that’s gone on. He’s only worked in the CIA for four years, which is less than in the books.”
While you wait for Jack Ryan season 3, you can watch the older episodes that are now available on Amazon Prime Video.
