Taboo Season 2: Plot Details
Taboo Season 1 ended with James, Atticus, Michael, and others sailing off to America on a ship arranged by Strange. However, the gang must be careful as a traitor is also part of their gang. Coming to its second chapter, Steve Knight, the show’s creator, has dropped small hints previously that the tensions would be escalating in season two with opium and narcotics making the highlights. We could also witness the gang finding their new rivals in the upcoming season i.e. Colonnade, an American spy web. The secret agents are going to be at the center stage of the series. Besides, the eight-episode series will also make some unexpected revelations about James Delaney’s history and throw light on the legacy left behind James’s dead father. The political war between Britain and the United States is also likely to affect the protagonist’s plans. Thus, it can be said that there is a lot in store for the series fans.
Taboo Season 2 Cast Update
Only Hardy’s return has been confirmed thus far for Taboo’s second season. Ultimately, he and his father, Chips Hardy, originated the concept for the programme.
The actors Stephen Graham, who plays Atticus, David Hayman, who plays Brace, Edward Hogg, who plays Michael Godfrey, Jason Watkins, who portrays Solomon Coop, Nicholas Woodeson, who plays Robert Thoyt, and Lorna Bow/Delaney, who plays Jessie Buckley, Mark Gatiss, who plays the Prince Regent, could all return.
The recurrent cast, which includes James Delaney’s half-brother Robert Serkis, Marina Hands (Countess Musgrove), Lucian Msamati (George Chister), Tom Hollander (George Cholmondeley), Scroobius Pip (French Bill), and Roger Ashton Griffiths (Abraham Appleby), may also make a comeback.
Unless they reappear to haunt James Delaney from beyond the grave, the following actors—Oona Chaplin as Zilpha Geary, Jefferson Hall as Thorne Geary, Leo Bill as Benjamin Wilton, Michael Kelly as Edgar Dumbarton, and Jonathan Pryce as Sir Stuart Strange—were all killed off in the first season.
We’ll be updating this website as a second season approaches, so be sure to bookmark it to learn about all the new members of the group.
Will Taboo return for season 2 in 2024?
Taboo, the gothic Victorian television series created by Tom Hardy, has at last been assigned a tentative start date for its eagerly anticipated second season. Taboo, which debuted on FX in 2017, tells the story of James Delaney, a mysterious and enigmatic character played by Hardy, who returns to London after spending a considerable amount of time in Africa after his father passes away.
Taboo, which starred Oona Chaplin, Jessie Buckley, and Jonathan Pryce as well, aired for eight episodes and received positive reviews overall. Taboo’s showrunner Steven Knight, who previously collaborated with Hardy on Peaky Blinders, has declared that the series will run for two more seasons, the first of which was revealed in 2017.
As Knight reveals that they have a date when they intend to start filming on season 2, it appears that the wait is almost over and fans of the programme can get excited again.
According to Knight, who is speaking at a convention in Birmingham (via Broadcast), they plan to begin filming “by the end of next year.” Schedule appears to be the primary cause of the delay, despite the fact that Knight and Hardy are both “keen to continue.” The complete quote is available below:
“I anticipate that production will begin by the end of the next year…
“Many people want us to keep going in that direction, and Tom and I are eager to keep going. Scheduling and determining the next course of action have been the issues.”
Who is in the cast of Taboo Season 2?
Tom Hardy announced his return to the British drama series in 2018. Tom’s reappearance is not surprising as he is the one who introduced the story along with his father, Chips Hardy to the fans. So far, nothing has been disclosed about the cast members of Season 2. Yet we have fair assumptions that Season 1’s previous cast would make a comeback for the sequel. To name a few, characters such as Lorna Bow, Stephen Graham, Mark Gatiss, David Hayman, Jason Watkins, Edward Hogg, and Nicholas Woodeson would be returning. You could also expect new characters and faces in Season 2. The new additions to the cast would be an element of surprise for us as well.
It is expected that Taboo Season 2 would be dropped on BBC One and FX for UK and US viewers respectively. For more, watch this space.

UPDATES- Taboo season 2 will begin production in September. Once production begins, we’ll get new updates hopefully. The exact release date is yet to be announced. It was also reported that filming for Taboo season 2 was halted and went on a hiatus. You can check the post below:
We also got a glimpse of Tom Hardy’s new look for the upcoming season. Are you excited?
Although there aren’t many updates on the upcoming season, star Tom Hardy has dropped quite a few hints during his interview with Esquire. He explained that, “The second season of Taboo is really, really important to me, and it’s taken a lot of thinking, because I really enjoyed the first one and I want to be really fulfilled by the second one.”
He continued, “We’re still playing with ideas: you could go linear, a continuation of time, or we could drop prior to London [the first series starts with Delaney’s reappearance in the capital after a decade missing in Africa], or we could quantum-leap through time! I don’t know whether to go orthodox – there’s a series of that already written – but I don’t know if that’s the right way to go.”
Hardy very much said that he was ready to let his intuition run wild: “In my head I was thinking, ‘Let’s say they get to America, they get to Canada, fast-forward to 1968, the Tet Offensive, the Vietnam War, look at the CIA, the Viet Cong, the French in Saigon…. Take the Delaney family tree out in the jungle, and recreate the same family dynamics that were happening in London but with new people, thinking about how history and corruption repeats itself. It’s still Taboo, it’s still period, but it’s the Sixties. There’s something fun about that. Or do we go back to the 1800s? The Napoleonic Wars? The American War of Independence?’ But nothing’s crossed my heart and mind and desk where I’ve gone ‘That’s it!’ so I’m hanging fire.”
We’re excited and extremely looking forward to Tom Hardy’s ideas on Taboo season 2 and we think that it’s really going to be incredible just like the first season.
We’ll update this post once there are more new updates in the next few months. Till then, do watch out for this post for more!

Tom Hardy’s “Taboo Season 2” showcases surprising updates after literally 6 years!
Six years after season 1 aired, Tom Hardy’s Taboo TV series received a shocking season 2 update. The first season of Taboo chronicled the exploits of James Delaney (Hardy), a moody adventurer who became involved in political corruption and violence in early 19th-century London. Taboo was produced by Hardy, his father Chips Hardy, and Steven Knight of Peaky Blinders.
Hardy gave a gripping and enigmatic lead performance in the show, which gained a modest but devoted fan base and was finally picked up by BBC One for a second season. But since Taboo season 1 premiered on BBC One and FX more than five years ago, there haven’t been much developments regarding season 2.
As we peer through the fog at the Taboo season 2 release date, cast, and plot, Tom Hardy is back for supernatural strangeness and subterranean darkness! With Taboo, one of the oddest TV shows on the air right now, Tom Hardy is back for another season of 19th-century spiritual weirdness and subterranean evil.
Showrunner Steven Knight gave an update on the BBC period thriller series’ season 2.
Steven Knight, who also serves as showrunner on ‘Peaky Blinders’, spoke to Collider and explained that the script is nearly complete.
“It would be three (seasons) if we all stick with it and want to keep doing it.” That is my strategy. I have a geographical itinerary in mind for the thing, after all. It’s a trip west. I already know where I’m going, which is helpful when embarking on a lengthy journey like writing three eight-hour days. It’s beneficial to be aware of your direction.”
Knight also talked about his working relationship with Hardy since the two of them collaborated on “Peaky Blinders,” “Locke,” and, obviously, “Taboo.”
The hit 2017 period drama is gearing up for a return, says the producer Steven Knight. He said: “I imagine it will start production towards the end of next year. [Tom and I] are both keen to continue, and many people want us to continue in that direction. It’s been a question of schedules and deciding where it goes next.”
Considering that the new season could premiere in 2024, let’s hope the wait for more is finally over — stay tuned for updates!
