When Detective Superintendent Jeanette Kihlberg is given the case of a young boy’s brutal murder, she does not realize that the case would be an introduced to the horrors of an insidious evil, woven deep into Swedish society. ‘The Crow Girl’, an upcoming series under Buccaneer Media, is set to commence its production by January next year and is a book adaptation. Being published in 2010 by Erik Axl Sund, a Swedish author duo comprising of Håkan Axlander Sundquist and Jerker Eriksson, ‘The Crow Girl’ narrated the tale of two women who investigate a string of murders that are connected to each other. ‘The Crow Girl’ was followed by ‘Hunger Fire’ and ‘The Pythia’s Instructions’ which were released in 2011 and 2012 respectively. Together, the three book were re-released as a single volume under the title of ‘The Crow Girl’. Belonging to the thriller fiction genre, the book received a positive reception following its publication.
Buccaneer Media is an established production company whose works include, ‘Whitstable Pearl’, ‘Marcella’, ‘Ride’ and more. Joining the crew as the series’ are Tony Wood, Richard Tulk-Hart and Andy Moses who will be heading the production team. E V Crowe will be serving as the scriptwriter for ‘The Crow Girl’. E V Crowe is an established playwright whose works include, ‘Shoe Lady’, ‘The Sewing Group’, ‘Midsummer Mischief: Four Radical New Plays Alice Birch’ and more. Bristol, UK will supposedly be serving as the the series’ location. The series will most likely be streamed in Paramount+, an American subscription based streaming service.
Plot for ‘The Crow Girl’
As Detective Superintendent Jeanette Kihlberg heads the investigation of the boy’s murder, she is forced to battle an indifferent prosecutor and a bureaucratic police force that is apathetic and unwilling to use their resources in solving the murder of an immigrant child. But further discoveries of the mutilated corpses of two more children, makes it clear that the cases are tied together and a serial killer is the instigator. Left with limited options, Superintendent Kihlber approaches a therapist, Sofia Zetterlund for her expertise in understanding the psychopathology of those who kill so as to get a better understanding of the cases. Eventually, the lives of the two women become quickly intertwined professionally and personally as they investigate the cases.
With multiple thriller adaptation being under production, there are many anticipated releases of 2024. Despite the limited information on the cast and release of ‘The Crow Girl’s’ adaptation, a premiere date will potentially be announced soon.
