“Lisa N. Nova (Rosa Salazar) comes to LA dead set on directing her first movie. But when she trusts the wrong person and gets stabbed in the back, everything goes sideways and a dream project turns into a nightmare. This particular nightmare has zombies, hit men, supernatural kittens, and a mysterious tattoo artist who likes to put curses on people. And Lisa’s going to have to figure out some secrets from her own past in order to get out alive.”

The eight-episode limited series was launched on August 31, 2021. Currently, Netflix has not provided any update concerning a second season, the mainly favorable reactions from the audience and critics indicate another season of the series. Needless to say, it’s difficult to speculate when a possible upcoming season will be out or if a season 2 will even be commissioned because the series was originally conceived as a limited series.
Speaking to Screen Rant, series co-creator Nick Antosca talked about the likelihood of ‘Brand New Cherry Flavor’ conceived to be a limited series proceeding in some kind:
“We planned it as a contained story. Never say never if all the stars align, but we felt we wanted to take this journey with this character. So, we took elements of what Todd created to tell a contained story.”
It was the series creators Nick and Lenore’s idea to run the series for just one season, as per reported by iHorror.com, this means that if you’re wondering whether or not the series will return for a second run then the answer is most likely a strong no.
“We kind of mixed and matched,” Nick Antosca explained. “We took the stuff that Todd created. We used some of that. We sent him the scripts as we worked. He was involved in the creative process. Then we brought some of our own stuff to it. I mean, like, the kittens were not in the book. That was Lenore’s idea. We just kind of fell in love with it. You could take it as a metaphor if you want. There’s a lot of that stuff that came from our own nightmares.”
Antosca also talked about how ‘Brand New Cherry Flavor’ made differences within the novel’s story, speaking of season 1 only got through the opening of a lengthy story. This reveals there’s plenty to unfold in a probable season 2.
“There’s a lot that changed from the book, and this series basically takes the first section of the book and explores that. What was most important was that story of somebody trying to realize their vision despite all these obstacles,” Antosca added.
When is the Release Date for Season 2 of ‘Brand New Cherry Flavor’?
Because the series is not renewed, the release date is unknown. It’s also not certain if the series will be back for a second season since it was conceived as a limited series. So until we hear an official announcement from the creators, let’s not assume things and exercise patience.
