Black Summer Season 3: Release Date, Cast & Plot

Black Summer is an apocalyptic fiction series created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams. It made its debut in April 2019 on Netflix and was further renewed for a second installment in November 2021. Following the premiere of its second part in June 2021, fans are awaiting its next chapter. Unfortunately, the showrunners have not made any official announcement of Black Summer Season 3 yet, still, there are speculations that it would be out in late 2021. So, here comes the question, “What does the third season of Black Summer have in store for its fans?” Here’s everything we know about it so far

Black Summer Season 3: Release date

Netflix decided to sign the deal for the third part of Black Summer. The streaming giant is infamously known for making decisions about the fate of any series after taking into account its viewership numbers, sales, ratings, and reviews. Since the series’ second season did well, the streamer officially gave the green light for another season run.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the third season of Black Summer and as of May 2022, Netflix has formally declared that the new season is finally arriving on June 16, 2022.

Black Summer Season 3: Plot details

Season two of Black Summer witnessed more deaths than survivors. Ross has met a near-death encounter and it is difficult to anticipate whether she would survive the severe injuries or not. Following the events of the previous season, Anna will presumably take the center stage. She has to find a safe place to take her mother while learning to fight her own battles in her mother’s absence. Besides, Kyungsun is the only person who managed to escape. In season 2, we finally witness her meeting someone, the pilot who speaks and understands her language. The role of Kyungsun throws light on the refugee issues in North America. It is a safe bet to assume that the next season would delve deeper into this character’s story. Nazeri is another survivor but his part in the upcoming season is still in the dark. Stay tuned for more.

Black Summer Season 3: Cast

The survivors of Black Summer Season 2 would return to their past roles. Zoe Marlett will appear as Anna, Ross’s daughter in the series and Christine Lee will be the Kyungsun in the third season. Sadly, Justin Chu Cary’s journey ( Julius James) ended with the previous season. So, the audience would not see him again. There is a slim chance of Jaime King making a comeback as Ross. Ray Nazeri ( Bobby Naderi) is likely to join the cast alongside Bechir Sylvain (Braithwaite). You may also see new additions to the cast but their roles are not disclosed yet.

Black Summer Season 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix. Until we wait patiently for Season three, fans can always binge-watch its previous seasons on the streaming platform. Watch this space for more.

What to expect from Season 3 of Black Summer?

We gotta say there are a lot of things going to happen in the much-awaited next season of Black Summer.

Talking to Express.co.uk,  lead star Jamie King (Rose) described every detail of what she thought of the show continuing forward.

“I have a few ideas,” King illustrated, “I’m excited to get the writer’s room going again.

“This is the kind of series that could go on forever, but I think it would be really powerful to do it in just three seasons, if possible,” she told the outlet.

“What do you do when there are no more commodities left? Exploring that idea.”

King’s notion would work out literally quite well after the aftermath of the second season, as there are only a few people with very few resources.

The actress further shared more of her ideas while in a conversation with Comic Book.

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this. Hypothetically speaking, I would center it on different chapters, where we explore three central figures in different places,” King explained. “But that’s just — I don’t know, sketches.”

How many episodes will there be in season 3 of Black Summer?

The previous season of Black Summer had a total of 8 episodes. Thus, if the makers decide to follow a similar pattern, season 3 of the series will also comprise 8 episodes. However, there hasn’t been an official update yet. Stay connected with us for more updates!

Is the trailer for Black Summer season 3 out yet?

No, the trailer for season 3 of the series Black Summer isn’t out yet. Once the makers renew the show, we will receive the potential release date. And the trailer will air accordingly. Until then, stay tuned for more updates!

Black Summer ratings & reviews: Is the show worth watching?

The series Black Summer received an IMDb rating of 6.5 out of 10. Rotten Tomatoes, it received an 89% Tomatometer rating. Plus, it has secured positive responses from both critics and audiences. Hence, it’s definitely worth giving it a shot!

Black Summer Season 3 seems likely: Here are all the latest updates (2023)!

As of September 2023, the makers haven’t made any formal announcements as to whether or not Black Summer season three will air, but there have been some positive signs that suggest the prequel is likely. The first two seasons of Black Summer series have been well-received by critics and fans alike, with praise for its suspenseful plot, gritty realism, and strong performances.

The show has also been a commercial success, ranking as one of the most-watched zombie dramas on Netflix. Besides, the show’s creators, John Hyams and Karl Schaefer, have expressed interest in doing a third season, and the cast, including Jaime King and Christine Lee, have also said that they would be open to returning.

Overall, it seems likely that Black Summer Season 3 will be made. However, it is still too early to say for sure when it will be released. Netflix will need to decide whether or not to greenlight the season, and they will need to develop a script and a budget before production can begin. We will keep an eye out for any further updates on the renewal status of Black Summer Season three and let you know—please stay connected with us until then!

Where to watch Black Summer?

You may watch the series Black Summer on Netflix. All the episodes are available to watch and stream on the same platform.

Will there be a season 4 of Black Summer?

Season 3 of the series is yet to be released. Hence, there are no updates about Black Summer Season 4!

Will Black Summer return for season 3 in 2023?

The official renewal status is still pending, and so, we cannot say whether or not the series will return in 2023. However, we expect its arrival this year, but with Netflix, you can never be so sure. Let’s await an official confirmation!

A Page tweeted:

“Official Netflix Renewal Status: Pending Black Summer Season 3 Black Summer could return August 2023. This, of course, all depends on the renewal status of the series. The Wait Is On”
