Are you one of those curious to find out what happens between Futaba and Kou? Yes, fans, you guessed it right! We are talking about Ao Haru Ride season 2, here. We have few updates to share with you.
It’s been seven years, but fans are still awaiting the continuation of the budding romance between Kou and Futaba. The show is based on a Japanese shōjo manga series, written and illustrated by Io Sakisaka. The anime adaptation was produced by Production I.G. and released in 2014. Here’s everything we know so far about Ao Haru Ride season 2.
Will There Be ‘Ao Haru Ride’ Season 2?
Despite popular demand, the show is yet to secure a season 2 renewal from the production. It’s neither cancelled nor is it greenlit, as of now. The delay in the renewal could be due to the lack of source material to promote.
The series is based on a novel of the same name. Although there are a lot of chapters yet to be covered, the manga, which the show is based on, already ended serialisation in 2015. So maybe now there isn’t a reason to bring back the series.
The first season ended in a bit of a cliffhanger, so fans have been demanding for the show to return. Unfortunately, Production I.G. is yet to answer their call!
When Will ‘Ao Haru Ride’ Season 2 Release?
The anime series is still waiting for season 2 renewal, so we can’t give an expected release date. There have been no potential updates from the production house or the show developers regarding the second instalment. Man, it’s been like seven long years since the anime series premiered, but seems like Production I.G. has no interest in picking it up?
The show was released in July 2014 and still has not secured a renewal. Does it mean it won’t renew? Well, don’t lose hope, fam! There are tons of anime series that were picked up by another studio and premiered after years. Besides, going by the response and reviews the show acquired, there’s a good chance it might air in the near future. We will refresh this page as soon as we receive any potential update.
Is Ao Haru Ride season 2 happening in 2023-24?
As of yet, the cast and creators of Ao Haru Ride Season 2 have not announced anything. The anime version of the manga series of the same name ended in 2014, eight years ago.
Several factors may have prevented a second season. Production I.G. may not want to make a sequel. They may have waited to finish the manga before making a second season. There is enough material for a second season since the manga ended in 2015.
In the past, show director Ei Aoki indicated he would like to make a sequel, but he would need to find the proper time and place. The future of Ao Haru Ride Season 2 is unclear as of yet. If any updates are made, we shall inform here—until then, please stay connected with us!
If Ao Haru Ride season two happens, it may focus on Kou and Futaba relationship, future plans, and friends
With Kou and Futaba in their second year of high school, Ao Haru Ride Season 2 potentially continues the anime and manga. Good dating is going on. They still have issues. Futaba worries about her friends’ reactions to their relationship, and Kou is still dealing with his past. Both Kou and Futaba are envisioning their post-high school lives.
To sum up, Ao Haru Ride Season 2 may focus on Kou and Futaba relationship, future plans, and friends. Youth love and growth could be pleasant and hopeful. Do watch out for more updates!

Ao Haru Ride season 2 plot: What to expect?
Ao Haru Ride was critically acclaimed in Japan and was consistently named one of the best shōjo series of 2014 by several manga industry professionals. The series achieved popularity within teenagers and young women who strongly identified with Futaba’s personal growth.
The previous season plot revolved around teenagers. While most young girls make an effort to show off their feminine charms, Futaba Yoshioka deliberately behaves like she wants to repel anyone who might be attracted to her. Ostracized by her female classmates in middle school for being a little too popular with the boys, she desperately strives to avoid a similar situation in high school by being unnecessarily noisy and graceless.
Nevertheless, scattered among Futaba’s unpleasant memories are the treasured moments with the boy she had a crush on, Kou Tanaka. Unfortunately, that spell abruptly ended on a sour note. The guy suddenly stopped attending school and never came back.
When Futaba finds out that Kou has returned with a different last name this time, she can already feel the butterflies in her stomach. However, Kou Mabuchi is not the warm boy that she remembers from her days in middle school; he is now taller, more charismatic and withdrawn – making him far less approachable.
Futaba believes that if she returns to her former self, Kou will begin to take notice of her again. But is she prepared to sacrifice her bubble of normalcy and risk losing her friends in the process? The season 2 plot of the series Ao Haru Ride will continue from here onwards. However, as of August 2022, the makers haven’t made any potential revelations regarding the plot.
