Is there gonna be yet another season full of mysteries, court politics, power plays, and more?
The opulent show about the French court under King Louis XIV (George Blagden), Versailles, returns for its third and final season in the US on October 6 on Ovation. Before coming to a fitting end with the third season, the series Versailles explored new territory.
Before talking about season 4, let’s brief you on the plot of Versailles…
The plot introduction of the series Versailles revolves in the wake of the Fronde in 1667. The French nobility began to disobey and defy the monarchy, and so, Young King Louis XIV (George Blagdeb) decided to move the court near Paris – as a means to force their submission. Now, as Louis tries to expand his palace of Versailles, dangerous situations come up.
Is Versailles season 4 happening?

Stars of “Versailles” speak about how they feel now that season 3 is the last and final
When asked about how the stars felt about going back for the third season knowing it’s the last one, to which the actors replied, “we found out six weeks before the end of filming actually, so we were about to get the last couple of scripts of the last block and they were like coming back, and that was sort of an adjustment period… like we would have to say goodbye”
Evan William said, “it definitely was a surprise but not a great shock. It’s cool to be finishing on a high note… we think like that’s really cool… doing a European show… like doing three seasons, and we got a lot of appreciation from fans all over the world”

Also, speaking from York on his day off, where he’s currently performing in a theater production of Romeo & Juliet, Alexander talked about the depth of his character as Philippe.
He says, “The amount of impact that the character of Philippe d’Orléans had on me is impeccable. I’m definitely passionate about the show and hope that people take at least something away from the series…”
Why are there no more seasons of Versailles?
It was rumoured that the show was cancelled because of the decreasing number of viewers.
The show also received attention and some criticism from fans for its raunchy sex scenes.
Actress Jenny Platt, who played Jeanne, Louis XVI’s shoemaker but also a strong woman who is the voice for the impoverished people of Paris, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk.
She said: “I remember when I was watching the first couple of series at home I was a bit like oh this is a bit racey and now actually when I’m watching it I just think well it’s fine, it is just bodies, just bodies doing things and I think French people find it quite weird what a massive splash it made when it first came out.
“People were up and arms about how racy it was and people in France were like ‘I don’t understand, it is just bodies, people have sex I don’t understand?’”
However, Versailles came to a natural end.
Will Versailles return?
Nope, it will not. The actors of the series have confirmed that Versailles won’t return for a fourth season and that season 3 will be the last and final one.
Versailles was originally intended to run for four seasons, however, in April, it was announced season three would be the show’s last.
Fabric de la Patelliere, head of fiction at Canal Plus said: “The series was meant to chronicle the coming of age and rise to power of Louis XIV and show how he built Versailles to corral his nobles, asserting his absolute power.
“At the end of the third season, Louis XIV has achieved absolute power, he’s 46 or 47 years old, so we reached the end of the narrative arc that we had envisioned for this series.”
Versailles followed the story of King Louis XIV (played by George Blagden) and his controversial reign.
Actress Jenny Platt who played Parisian shoemaker Jeanne in Versailles spoke to Express.co.uk earlier this year.
Platt explained: “I think people were very sad but also you could see everybody was very proud of the work and the actors who had been in it for three years, they were all saying they are going to miss it hugely but at the same time, they think the producers are right, actually the story of King Louis after this point is kind of less interesting.
“So you have got all the story as far as it can go but I think everybody feels quite happy that it is the right time, the right time to end it on a high.”
