Animated series creator Stephen P. Nearly of ‘The Fungies!’, has expressed his distraught on HBO Max for axing his show from the streaming service.
In an unfortunate event The Fungies! is included among thirty titles that are put on the list to be withdrawn from the service as Warner Bros. Discovery proceeds with its cost-cutting assessments ahead of the unification of the two services which are HBO Max and Discovery+ by next year.
Stephen P. Neary aimed for an absence of publicity for his “fever dream of a show” and also underlined the point that he and his crew performed hard through the Covid-19 pandemic to guarantee that it could be released.
What made HBO cancel the show?
Neary, shared his disappointment on Twitter saying: “Last night during a figure drawing class I found out that The Fungies! was getting pulled from HBO Max this week. I’m heartbroken but I want to take this opportunity to thank all the amazing artists and production folks for their hard work on this sincere, fever dream of a show.”
“We worked so hard through the pandemic, and I hoped that diligence would be rewarded with support from the network,” Neary explained. “was promised the show would air on Cartoon Network, which would drive views to HBO Max, but soon after launch, the show was pulled from the air without notice. There was little to no promotion. Although I was graciously asked to speak on a mushroom podcast, a company representative monitored the taping so that I wouldn’t give away any ‘spoilers’ to the show.”
He further summed up the truth that “more well-known shows” are also being discontinued making it apparent that these are “uninformed, money-driven decisions.”
“My heart goes out to the other shows affected, and the beautiful work getting canceled before even airing. I’m going to keep making stuff! Even if it’s just for me. It’s what I’ve always done, since I was very very little. Thanks everyone,” he went on.
The cast members of ‘The Funggies!’ comprised of Harry Teitelman who played Seth alongside Zaela Rae as Claudette, Justin Michael as Nevin, Niki Yang as Lil’ Lemon, Grace Kaufman as Champsa; Holk, Sam Richardson as Cool James; Mr. Mayor, Stephen P. Neary as Pascal; Sir Tree, Edi Patterson as Mertha; Anna Nanna, Tama Brutsche as The Twins, Jennifer Coolidge as Dr. Nancy, Terry Gross as Pam, Mary Faber as Teacher Terry, June Squibb as Granny Grancie, Chris Diamantopoulos as Commander Beefy, and Eric Edelstein as Coach Croach.
