What more crises will Olivia Pope encounter as the White House Chief of Staff?
The series Scandal is about a former White House Communications Director, Olivia Pope (Washington). She exits the job and opens a premier crisis management organization where she deals with erupting political scandals. Premiering on the ABC network, the series stars Kerry Washington, Darby Stanchfield, Katie Lowes, Guillermo Diaz, Jeff Perry, Tony Goldwyn, Joshua Malina, Bellamy Young, Scott Foley, Portia de Rossi, Cornelius Smith Jr., and Joe Morton.
The major question that everyone is wondering is: Will the series receive the green light for season 8? Well, ABC has officially canceled the series and the seventh season will be the last and final season of all the political quandary.
Channing Dungey, entertainment president at ABC, spoke with reporters about the decision during her pre-upfronts press calls:
“I had conversations with Shonda Rhimes where she has had for a while a sense of how she wanted the story to end,” Dungey told reporters Tuesday ahead of ABC’s upfront presentation to ad buyers. “She said, ‘Look, I really feel like season seven is where I want to wrap up this story because I always prefer to end a show where you’re feeling on top as opposed to letting things fizzle out.’”
“I do think that audiences, especially fans and Gladiators, who are as loyal to Scandal as they have been, are going to want the story to end in the way that Shonda intended to,” said Dungey. “That was a decision she felt really good about, and we support it wholeheartedly.”
Will Scandal season 8 return?
No. Scandal season 8 has officially been canceled. That’s right, the makers have decided not to continue with the series any further.
In her statement, the creator, Rhimes said that it was a tough decision to make. But she just knew it. Her Shondaland production company is still churning out hit shows How to Get Away With Murder and Grey’s Anatomy. Plus, they are also launching new series such as For The People and Station 19. So, the Scandal creator and her team will still be very busy after Scandal’s last episode. Rhimes told her fans:
“Deciding how to end a show is easy. Deciding when to finish is quite simple when the end date is years away. But actually, going through with it? Actually standing up to say: ‘This is it?’ Not so much. So, next year we are going all out. Leaving nothing on the table. Creating this world in celebration. We are going to handle the end the way we like to handle the important things in our Scandal family: all together, white hats on, gladiators running full speed over a cliff.”
When is the release date for Scandal season 8?
The series has been canceled and it won’t return for season 8. Hence, there’s no release date.
