Starring Arden Cho, Dominic Sherwood, and Rob Heaps, Netflix’s legal drama, Partner Track portrays the story of a Korean American lawyer, Ingrid Yun, who works hard to make a partner at an elite law firm, Parsons Valentine & Hunt. The series is inspired by a 2013 novel of the same name by Helen Wan and has been praised widely by critics and fans alike. However, it failed to impress the streaming service with its viewership status, which led to its cancelation following its inaugural season’s premiere. The OTT platform announced the cancelation in November 2022, leaving fans utterly shocked and disappointed. Despite the lead cast, Arden Cho’s attempt to bring back the show for a second outing via a series of Instagram posts, Netflix has been firm on its word.
The legal drama made it to the streamer’s top 10 weekly series of the English language, but it struggled to draw in sufficient views after three weeks. Typically, the streamer analyzes its internal parameters of renewal before deciding on any show’s future. And it seems that the streaming giant has pulled the plug on the show just after its season one release.
It is a bit surprising because there were conversations for a season two. So much so that the streamer commissioned the writer’s room to pen down ideas for a potential follow-up ahead of its debut release. Moreover, The Head of Drama Development at Netflix, Jinny Howe was also optimistic about season two after receiving immense love from fans globally. She said that she is thrilled with how the episodes went.
Partner Track Season one Sets up for a possible Season two
The cliffhanger ending left room for a potential follow-up of the legal drama. With Ingrid Yun having to decide between Nick and Jeff, and herself ending up with a broken heart, there are more stories to be heard and told. Jeff’s revelation to the law firm about Ingrid’s arrest left the latter devastated when they decided not to make her partner (crushing her dream promotion and making me leave the firm). This betrayal from Jeff was not expected because of the intimate bond between the two.
So, how does this affect their relationship now they have confessed their love? Would Ingrid return to the law firm and start afresh with Jeff after his wrongdoings? What about Rachel who has discovered her writing talent? And what happens to Tyler following her one-night stand with a guy from the gym who happens to be your new boss? Season one had many unresolved threads that would have formed the basis of the future plotlines, but unfortunately, there is no way to have the answers.
In an interview, Sherwood mentioned that he wanted to explore more of his character, Jeff, he thought that a possible season 2 could focus on his relationship with his father and mother. But sadly, that will never happen after the series is canned.
Many fans have also taken to Twitter to clamor for the renewal of S2, but Netflix has made its final words.
Partner Track Season one’s Cast
Partner Track features Arden Cho alongside Bradley Gibson, Alexandra Turshen, Dominic Sherwood, Rob Heaps, Nolan Gerard Funk, Matthew Rauch, and Roby Attal. If a season two happens ever, it would not be a surprise to have some of the original casts for S1 back.
Partner Track is still available to stream on Netflix. So, if you have not binge-watched it yet, do it now. The perfect mix of family drama, romance, and struggle for climbing the corporate ladder make it an engaging and entertaining watch.

Partner Track season 2 has been canceled!
Netflix has officially canceled the second season of Partner Track. That’s right, Partner Track season 2 won’t be returning in 2023. This announcement has shocked all the fans, but well, what can we do anyway. Let’s see if there will be a spin-off series.
“Partner Track getting canceled feels cruel because we were just getting a taste of Ingrid Yun finding herself and reevaluating her morals in a cutthroat world and also, Z,” one fan wrote.
Another put, “What does ‘success’ even mean to @netflix? It debuted well. It has a fan base begging for S2. It has critical acclaim. People are still discovering it and liking it. They started the process of writing a second season. There’s more story to tell. I’m so frustrated.”

Why was Partner Track canceled?
Netflix announced that Partner Track will not air, which really upset the fans. Given Netflix CEO Jinny Howe’s views, the news is quite surprising.
They said that the audience’s performance didn’t match their odds. Despite its modest cost, the play was able to attract a decent crowd.
“There are several factors that might influence renewals. Three internal metrics have been assigned to the decision to renew or cancel a show. Two important metrics were adjusted view share and impact value because of which we had to cancel the show.”
