Monarca is a Mexican drama television series that revolves around the Carranza family in a world of Mexico business moguls corrupted by scandal and full of violence. The series stars Irene Azuela, Rosa Maria Bianchi, Antonio de la Vega, Osvaldo Benavides, and James Hyde.
Created and produced by Diego Gutierrez, the Netflix show was first launched in September, 2019 followed by the second season which aired on January 1, 2021. So far, Monarca has two seasons with a total of 18 episodes.
The hit series was much appreciated by audiences and critics. The show entered the Mexican Top ten charts for more than 25 days and also appeared in the Top ten television charts in the US for a few days. Despite the show’s massive popularity, Monarca season 3 won’t be back for more even though the previous season ended on a major cliffhanger leaving fans utterly disappointed and in great dismay. Let’s find out why there won’t be season 3 of Monarca.
No release date available as Netflix axed Monarca Season 3
Sadly, Monarca season 3 was cancelled by the streamer. Therefore, the second season was the final outing and the series will no longer continue with the third season. The news of the cancellation came as a shock to many fans as they were highly anticipating the upcoming season because the second season’s ending left a huge hole for further continuation of the story.
Stars bid their final goodbye to the show
As much as we want the show to return for another season, the future seems uncertain and quite unlikely.
Let’s see what the stars of the hit show had to say after the news about the cancellation. On March 26, 2021, actor Osvaldo Benavides posted on in Spanish Instagram that captioned (English translation):
“In the absence of news … I am saying goodbye to Andres Carranza. What a pleasant project. Thanks for everything and to all of us who were there. What pride to have participated. Exit bye.”

Actress Irene Azeual shared a goodbye post on March 27, 2021, that reads:
“There are stories that end even if they don’t end. A collaboration with people I admire, a set full of humour and respect, a loving cast and a first-rate crew … I am satisfied that we did a quality series to show off here and in other countries. Now we have to invent an ending, to you who saw it and to us who made it.“
After few days on March 28, 2021, Juan Manuel Bernal posted a video on Instagram to which he said:
“I am very grateful, moved and surprised by everything that this news has caused, which I finally believe has already been confirmed by the Netflix platform to announce that the third season of Monarca is cancelled…
… I understand your annoyance, but I am not the right person to say your annoyance to. I’m with you, I’m a bit upset because it seems to me that the series didn’t end as it had to end, we needed to make an ending, but the decision is not mine, it is not ours, it belongs to the platform.”
