New York, March 19, 2025 – The legal battle between actor-director Justin Baldoni, Ryan Reynolds, and Blake Lively escalated today as Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, sharply criticized Reynolds’ attempt to be dismissed from a $400 million lawsuit. Reported by E! News at 7:12 PM EST on X, the dispute stems from Baldoni’s January lawsuit against Reynolds, Lively, and their publicist, accusing them of defamation, civil extortion, and interference with his career.

Reynolds, known for “Deadpool,” filed a motion on March 18 to exit the lawsuit, arguing that his comments about Baldoni were not defamatory and that Baldoni’s claims were baseless, merely stemming from “hurt feelings,” according to court documents cited by E! News. However, Freedman fired back in a statement to E! News, calling Reynolds’ move “arrogant” and asserting his deep involvement in the controversy. “Mr. Reynolds’ exploitation of his enormous power in Hollywood continues,” Freedman said, dismissing Reynolds’ claim of being merely a “supportive spouse” to Lively. He accused Reynolds of playing a key role in defaming Baldoni, pressuring talent agencies, and attempting to sabotage his career.
Freedman also referenced Reynolds’ appearance at the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special on February 16, where a subtle joke about the legal battle was made, suggesting it was an attempt to downplay the seriousness of the allegations. “After lighting a match, Mr. Reynolds now seeks to run from the flames,” Freedman added, vowing to hold Reynolds accountable.
The lawsuit originates from tensions on the set of “It Ends With Us,” where Lively accused Baldoni of misconduct, prompting a retaliatory smear campaign claim from Baldoni. As the legal proceedings continue, with a trial date set for March 2026, this high-profile Hollywood feud shows no signs of cooling down. E!
