Homeland is the brainchild of Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, that became a critically acclaimed espionage thriller series with its debut in 2011. The series has numerous awards and accolades to his credit. Even his main lead and supporting cast members have received Emmy awards for their brilliant performances. Its popularity has brought it seven additional seasons with its last part concluding the series in April 2020. Despise that, fans are anxiously waiting to know what happens to the protagonist, Carrie Mathison after season eight. Although there has been no word on season eight as of yet, fans are hopeful that Homeland will return to our screens. With that here’s everything we know so far about the possibility of Homeland Season 9:
Is Homeland Renewed for Season nine?
Sadly, Homeland’s end was long announced with its season eighth renewal. The last outing saw a significant decline in the viewership numbers and audience ratings in comparison to its predecessor installment. Report suggest that the numbers went down by 53 percent in views and over 30 percent in audience rating. With that, it is unlikely that the series will be picked up by Showtime or Channel 4 for another season. Thus, it’s time that fans stop clamoring for more episodes because it will never happen ( at least that’s what we believe at this moment)
Alex Gansa told in a previous interview that he’s truly grateful for this unique and extraordinary experience the series offered him as a show developer. Further, Gansa added that there is no season nine of Homeland on the cards.
Howard Gordon said in a response to the show’s future that as of now, the series is over. But we cannot say anything about what would happen in the next five or say six years.
Homeland Season 9 Plotline: What could it have been?
Season eighth saw Carrie Mattison suffering mentally, emotionally, and physically after serving as an innate to Rusian troops. She yet has not fully healed from the trauma, yet her mentor, Saul Bereson has a dangerous mission set for them. Bereson wants Mattison to have the peace talk with the Taliban, so he has taken her to Afghanistan. Audiences are accustomed to seeing Mattison tackling the toughest challenges as a CIA agent, thus this is no different.
With no official statement on Homeland Season 9, it is very hard to predict how the story could go in the next episodes. But it will be blissful to witness more of it in the future.

Why was Homeland Canceled after Season 8?
Homeland is easily one of the most popular series but unfortunately, Homeland was canceled because of the production cost as it got too expensive.
According to screenwriter Bert Salke, “The show demanded money based on how big of a production it became. When Alex and Howard want to shoot the final season in the Middle East, you’re not doing it in Barstow. You’re going to Morocco.”
Series director and executive producer Leslie Linka Glatter further added: “We were told we had full Moroccan military support. So, in one scene we had two C130 [aircraft] and a bunch of Humvees and helicopters as set dressing. All of a sudden, we get a bill for $230,000.”
But apart from the production cost, the series was meant to end after the eighth season. However, the original plan was that Homeland was never intended to go beyond more than five seasons. Homeland creator Alex Gansa had already been planning season 8 as the last one even before the decision was taken because it felt like it was the right time to end the series.
