Hocus Pocus was originally set for a reboot instead of a direct sequel. Bette Midler seemed more excited than ever about that idea as fans of the original movie were. Back In 2017, Bette Midler, unapologetically told PEOPLE, “I know it’s cheap. It’s going to be cheap!” She further added that there was no way she’d agree to be on board for such a horrendous appearance, no matter the amount she was given. “Happily, the prospect of a reboot has been quashed, and we’re getting a proper sequel instead.”

In 2020 during the Investor Day Presentation, Disney confirmed the news about the upcoming sequel although they didn’t give out many details.

Yet, as we draw nearer to a possible release date, plenty of information has been revealed. Here’s everything you need to know about Hocus Pocus 2 release date, cast and plot.

Hocus Pocus 2 release date: When is the premiere date?

The long-awaited Hocus Focus 2 is finally on its way. Hocus Pocus is all set to land on Disney plus in 2022, but still, now there is no specific release date available. Ah, the wait is killing us slowly!

Production for the movie began this year and by next year we might get to see the movie.

The original movie was released in July 1993. Bette Midler’s Instagram post confirmed the great news that she’d be joining the cast and mentioned, “Fall 2022.”

The release date for the movie has been confirmed all thanks to Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica-Parker. Midler tweeted that said: “Sistaaaahs! It’s been 300 years… But we’re BACK!”

While co-star Sarah Jessica Parker wrote on Instagram: “Yep. I’m ready. To run. Amok, amok, amok, amok.”

It’s finally confirmed that the movie will be out on Disney plus fall-2022.

Hocus Pocus 2 cast: Who’s in it?

Here are some of the names who will return for the upcoming movie Hocus Pocus movie 2: Sarah Jessica Parker (as Sarah Sanderson), Bette Midler (as Winifred Sanderson), Kathy Najimy (as Mary Sanderson)

Thora Birch also tweeted a GIF from the original movie, with the caption “2022 will be ‘Mah-velous!'” It’s not confirmed whether she’ll be in the movie as well.

As for the rest of the other cast members, there is no official confirmation if we’ll see Doug Jones play his respective role as Winnie’s former lover and zombie, William ‘Billy’ Butcherson, or if Jason Marsden will return to voice Binx the cat/ cursed boy.

Adam Shankman won’t be returning to direct this time due to scheduling conflicts and passed the directing role to Anne Fletcher instead. Although Shankman will be stepping down as an executive producer, he will be joined by fellow executive producers Ralph Winter, David Kirschner and Steven Haft as co-producer.

Shankman said, “As heartbroken as I am that I won’t be able to direct my friends Bette, Sarah Jessica and Kathy in what is sure to be nothing short of a major event for Disney+ due to scheduling conflicts, I couldn’t be more pleased to be handing over the reins to Anne, who has brought so much laughter and joy into people’s lives with her previous work.”

Anne Fletcher also added: “Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film. I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started.”

According to the showrunners, “three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world.” Aside from this information regarding the plot for Hocus Pocus 2 is limited.

In February 2021, Midler confirmed that she had seen the script for the sequel, and thankfully it won’t take much time before it goes for production. Miller said, “They sent the script and we’re really excited about it – we’re up for it.”

The original cast of Hocus Pocus has also confirmed that they were amazed by what Disney had come up with.

Midler stated, “They presented us with an outline, and after we picked ourselves up off the floor because it’s been 27 years, we looked at it and I think all of us agreed that it was pretty great.”
