Is it possible for Zoey and Ben to face another round with Minos after Escape Room: Tournament of Champions: everything we know so far?
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, like the first film, ends on a cliffhanger, teasing Minos’ return in Escape Room 3. Here’s all we learn about the plot, characters, and potential release date for the third instalment of this brain-teasing horror franchise so far. The horror sequel reintroduces Zoey (Taylor Russell) and Ben (Logan Miller), the two survivors from the original film, as they unexpectedly discover themselves trapped in the world’s deadliest escape room, now accompanied by survivors from prior Mino’s escape rooms.
To put it, everyone was in the escape room during the first film since they were the only survivors of the catastrophe, so what is the motive for this round, and why has Minos gathered former champions?
To explain everything and how everything ties together into possible Escape Room 3, we’ll have to get into spoilers for Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, so if you haven’t seen it yet, turn away now.
Will There be Escape Room 3?
In a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Escape Room director Adam Robitel revealed:
“We have a treasure trove of ideas [for a third Escape Room movie]. It’s really going to be up to the fans. But, look, there’s a lot of ways to skin the cat, there’s a lot of different ways to continue to play with the audience’s expectations. Yeah, we’d be really excited to do that.” So yes, chances of a part 3 happening are very much likely.
“Escape Room: Tournament of Champions” first began with a production budget of just about $15 million, and it collected over $51 million when the second movie was launched. That was a serious reduction compared to what the first movie had achieved, but the good news is the necessary profits were attained, and with a strong fan base from across the globe, part 3 of the movie is anticipated to be a success.
Escape Room 3 doesn’t have a set release date yet. Escape Room: Tournament of Champions was supposed to come out roughly 16 months after the first film, however, it was postponed because of the pandemic. If Escape Room 3 gets given the go-ahead soon, it might begin production this year, with a release date in the end of 2022 or somewhere in 2023.
Taylor Russell and Logan Miller resumed their roles as Zoey Davis and Ben Miller in the film ‘Escape Room: Tournament of Champions.’ Holland Roden, Indya Moore, Carlito Olivero, and Thomas Cocquerel will play Rachel Ellis, Brianna Collier, Theo, and Nathan, respectively. Deborah Ann Woll, who played Amanda Harper in the last film, repeats her role in this one.
Miller and Russell are now more likely to be back in ‘Escape Room 3,’ although Woll is also a possibility. Considering his character’s cast, it’s possible that the famous figure “Daredevil” will play a significant role in the future instalment. Moore, Roden, Cocquerel, and Olivero’s possibilities of coming back are not specified, but they are slim. In the next chapter of Escape Room 3, we’re also anticipating seeing some fresh faces.
Will Escape Room 3 happen in 2022?
Escape Room 3 hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. Asked whether he plans to make a trilogy in an interview with Nightmarish Conjurings, director Adam Robitel replied, “We’ll see! I always say, let’s see if there’s a desire for it. It all comes down to bucks as they say.”
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions had a production budget of $15 million. If it performs in line with the first Escape Room (which grossed $155.7 million worldwide), chances of Escape Room 3 happening are good.
When Escape Room: Tournament of Champions’ planned April 2020 release date was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Sony pushed the release back for more than a year rather than moving it to a streaming service or releasing it on VOD. This suggests that the studio has faith in the Escape Room franchise’s potential as a reliable box office draw.
Escape Room 3 trailer: Any footage available yet?
As mentioned above, Escape Room 3 hasn’t been confirmed by Sony yet. So, it (probably) hasn’t started filming and any footage is a long way away yet. Sorry about that.
Plot: What to Expect?
The reality surrounding Minos is finally revealed close to the end of ‘Escape Room: The Championship.’ Zoey and Ben boarded a flight to return home. Shortly as they believe the nightmare is over, Zoey suspects the flight is also one of Minos’ escaping death chambers. When the jet started to refuel, his concerns were confirmed.
We’ll most likely uncover the answer to the suspenseful ending of a previous film in Room 3. Zoey and Ben may well have made it through the nightmare, but they now find themselves in the middle of a perilous puzzle. Amanda may be able to assist Zoey and Ben in successfully defeating the Minos by sharing internal information. Zoey could potentially accept to work with Minos and sabotage their performance.
What was the biggest challenge in making Escape Room 2?
According to director Adam Robitel, the biggest challenge in making Escape Room 2 was creating new and unique escape rooms that were even more suspenseful and challenging than those in the first movie, while also maintaining a cohesive story.
To create the various escape rooms in the movie, the production team worked closely with puzzle designers and escape room experts to come up with intricate and challenging puzzles that would test the characters’ skills and intelligence. The puzzles range from physical challenges, such as navigating a shifting floor, to mental challenges, such as solving riddles and decoding cryptic messages.
Updates on Escape Room 3?
As of now, no additional information about the release date of Escape Room 3 has been released yet! Once it’ll be announced, you guys will be updated!
Robitel, one of the senior developers of the series in an interview with Bloody Disgusting stated, “We did fire, gravity, ice, cold, gas so we need to outdo ourselves now. We’re in the box. I can’t draw and quarter somebody, so what are those visually ticking clocks? We have some cool stuff we’re developing and hopefully, the audience will think that way too, but it’s tougher.”
He continued, “We’re knee-deep in developing the sequel. We’re exploring various ideas with how it all plays out.”
