Sadly, the audience will be disheartened to know that ZeroZeroZero is considered a limited standalone series. When asked about the director and creator Stefano Sollima whether or not the series will produce a sequel, he responded “No.” He added, “It’s a miniseries called Zero Zero Zero. It’s eight episodes long, and that’s where the season finishes”.
Coming back to the release date, the official air date for the second season is yet to be announced.
Why Does Season 2 of ZeroZeroZero Won’t Happen?
Although the eight episode series was a massive success among the audience the series ZeroZeroZero will not receive a sophomore season because the show makers deemed it as a limited series.
The series creator Stefano Sollima in an interview with Variety confirmed that the series is indeed a mini-series.
The news outlet asked the creator about the challenges of production, he simply responded: “The most ambitious and risky part was the concept.”
Sollima further explained: “I’m not talking about just doing a series on cocaine shot in real locations in three continents around the world. I mean telling a story [drug trafficking] that’s already been told many times, but from an angle that is totally original, so much so that it doesn’t even seem like a drug-smuggling story.”

When it comes to the plot of ZeroZeroZero season 2, Sollima explained that it’s going to be a “journe,” explaining, “We envisioned the series’ arc as a trip of this cargo from its point of departure in Mexico. To its point of arrival in Calabria, traveling through Senegal and Morocco,” he added. “The story revolves around cocaine trafficking and the money earned from it. As well as what criminal groups undertake to get control of it. Along with how this affects all parts of real-life with which it overlaps – some of which are politically radical and paradoxical.”

I mean, there are so many phenomenal performances. There’s so much longevity in all of these storylines, because these people are probably going to be doing this until the day that they die the way that Don Minu (Adriano Chiaramida) is still doing it as an 80-year-old man in Calabria.”
She added, “Also, what’s interesting about that journey is the question of respect and how the more one is given it, the more one needs it, essentially. It doesn’t work the other way around. And I think that’s the interesting thing about power and respect being more important than anything else. It’s more important than sexual dominance. It’s more important than financial dominance. Power and respect are the things that every character in this series relies on, basically.”
