Created by Neil Cross, The Watchful Eye is a British supernatural drama TV series, featuring Tom Riley, Olivia Vinall, and Wunmi Mosaku. The previous season highlights the investigation of a sudden disappearance of a private investigator (Robert Greene) best friend’s daughter. As he investigates the mysterious disappearance, he learns that a supernatural force is at work in a small town of Northwood, England. So far, there’s only one season of the series.

The Watchful Eye season 1 recap!
In the first season of The Watchful Eye, we saw an introduction of the main characters Detective John and Smith, Officer Sarah Johnson, and others. John and Sarah were seen working on a case that encompasses a random disappearance of a young woman from a small town in England. As they investigate the situation further, they cross paths with a drifter named Jack who’s got key information regarding the case. However, in the end the detective found out that the culprit was no other than the girl’s father himself.
In the second season Sarah and John come across a weird cult group called The Watchers. The plot turns seriously dark as they thwart the cult’s plans and save their town from the ill luck. Later on, Sarah and John come across a new piece of evidence that’s directly related to the girl’s disappearance. In the second season, the plot will get picked up from here.
The Watchful Eye Season 2 has been canceled!
After just one season, “The Watchful Eye” was canceled (via Variety). The show traced the journey of Elena Santos, a young lady with a troubled history, as she found employment as a live-in nanny in Manhattan for a wealthy family.
She finds out very quickly that everyone shares dangerous secrets and sinister plans in the enigmatic structure. Elena, however, is hiding some startling secrets of her own from them. Starring were Henry Joseph Samiri, Kelly Bishop, Aliyah Royale, Lex Lumpkin, Jon Ecker, Amy Acker, Mariel Molino, and Kelly Bishop.
Along with Ryan Seacrest, Nina Wass, Andrea Shay, and Jeffrey Reiner—who also directed the pilot—Emily Fox, of “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” served as executive producer and showrunner. The show was developed and consulted on by Julie Durk (“Grace and Frankie”), and Ryan Seacrest Productions and ABC Signature produced it.
What can we expect from the plot of The Watchful Eye season two?
The Watchful Eye Season 2 was canceled, hence there is no plot description. But given season 1 events, there are a few things we can speculate on if the series would have continued. In the first season, the Greybourne family’s complexity was revealed, including their dark secrets, murder, and blackmail stuff. We discovered Elena Santos, the nanny, is not who she claims to be; she’s a private investigator who infiltrated the Greybourne family to discover their secrets.
Elena’s Greybourne family inquiry continues in Season 2. She may reveal her past and why she is so determined to prosecute the Greybournes. Some potential season 2 narrative ideas:
- Elena may find a Greybourne conspiracy outside their family.
- Elena may fall in love with a Greybourne child, complicating her objective.
- Elena may have to choose between her profession and her heart.
- As a private investigator, Elena may be revealed, endangering her life.

Unfortunately, we haven’t heard much about season 2 of The Watchful Eye. When the series came out, it received lukewarm responses from the audience and critics alike. So at this point, a new season may or may not happen. It’s all up to Freeform to make the big decision. Also, season one was only released this January and probably it might take a while till we hear any official news from the makers. Until then, sit back and relax as you wait for more updates!
