Apple tv+ newly released thriller drama, Shining Girls has drawn the attention of a plethora of viewers. An adaption of Lauren Beukes’s best-selling novel of the same name, the thriller has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. And since its final episode’s airing on June 3, 2022, fans have been waiting with bated breath for more of its episodes. Disappointingly, the network has not yet greenlit it as of now, which leaves us wondering whether will it return for another installment or not. If you are also looking ahead to season 2 of Shining Girls like us, here’s everything you must know about its possibility, anticipated airing date, and more.

Shining girls Season two’s Renewal Update

Apple tv + has not formally written on the follow-up of shining girls. In that case, we should wait a while until it gets an official renewal. However, given that the show has nearly covered the literary piece Lauren, there is no more for season two. But Elizabeth, the series lead and executive producer say that the story does not end with season one. She added that discussions are happening around season two, but such things take time to materialize as many things go into consideration. Moreover, the Handmaid’s Tale actor says that although her character has got what she wanted, now she is stuck with the question, now what to do?’. This can certainly give continuity to the series.

Shining Girls Season two’s Release date

The premiere date of season two is not known yet as things are still at the initial stage for the series. Nonetheless, fans should not expect the show to return until 2023 if only it is confirmed. Season one went into production in May 2021, but was not ready for our screens until April 29, 2022. Thus, given this production schedule, it is possible that filming for season two will commence later in 2022 provided there are no delays caused by covid. However, this is just a pure conjecture, things will become clear once more solid details about the series pour in.

Shining Girls Season two’s plotline

Season one’s ending saw the protagonist, Kirby triumph by stabbing the time-travel killer at his house. While she loses Dan, her investigating partner in hunting down the killer, who has been murdering women for decades, Kirby has finally taken charge of her life by the finale episode. With that, the story has infinite potential to go in multiple directions. But this time, there is no Lauren’s book to serve as the basis for a future storyline as more or less season one has taken us to a place where the book already stands, so there is no possibility for any further plotline. However, that does not mean that we cannot have season two. If the creative team and network show interest in it, fans can get more of the series.

Yet it is very hard to fully predict the next series of events that will shape the story arc of season two for lack of any specifics. Therefore, we are left to speculate what might be the second part of Shining Girls in that case.

“We have a lot of ideas for a second season…” says showrunner Silka Luisa on Shining Girls season 2 renewal.

Regarding the show’s second season, neither the Shining Girls cast nor its producers have made any formal statements. There are, however, a few encouraging indicators that point to a renewal being likely. First, the first season of Shining Girls was a critical and economic triumph. The series was a ratings success for Apple TV+ and earned favorable reviews from critics. The cast and creators of the show have also expressed interest in coming back for a second season.

Elisabeth Moss, who plays Harper Curtis, the show’s star, stated recently in an interview, “I would love to do another season of Shining Girls. With these individuals, I believe there is a lot more story to be told. The show’s creator and showrunner, Silka Luisa, stated in the same interview, “We have a lot of ideas for a second season. We believe there is still a lot to learn about the people and the setting of Shining Girls.

However, a few obstacles can prohibit Shining Girls from getting a second season. One difficulty is that shows have a habit of being cancelled by Apple TV+ after one season. Elisabeth Moss, the show’s principal actress, is also a highly busy actress with a lot of other projects in the works.

In conclusion, it is still too early to predict whether Shining Girls will receive a second season. There are, however, a few encouraging indicators that point to a renewal being likely. We shall keep this space informed as and when we find any updates, please stay connected with us until then!

Shining Girls Season two’s cast

Elizabeth Moss plays Kirby, a traumatized woman who is in pursuit of her attacker. Wagner Moura and Dan Velazquez join her as the pair investigate decades-old cold murder cases to find Kirby’s assailant. Aside from them, the series also features several cast members such as Phillipa Soo as Dr. Jin-Shook, Chris chalk as Kirby’s colleague, Marcus, and Jamie Bell as Harper, Kirby’s attacker among others.

Silka Luisa has created and executive produced the series alongside Elisabeth Moss, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lauren Beukes, and Michelle MacLaren. Additionally, the series has multiple directors directing its 8 episode season.

Shining Girls ratings: Is the show worth watching?

The series Shining Girls received an IMDb rating of 7.5 out of 10. On rotten tomatoes, it received an 83% tomatometer rating. Plus, it has secured positive response from both critics and audiences. Hence, it’s definitely worth watching!

How many episodes will there be in season 2 of Shining Girls?

The previous season of Shining Girls had a total of 8 episodes. Thus, if the makers decide to follow a similar pattern, season 2 of the series will also comprise 8 episodes. However, there hasn’t been an official update yet.

Is “Shining Girls” worth watching?

Yes, Shining Girls is worth watching. It is a well-made, gripping thriller with a good cast and interesting storyline. The show is based on Lauren Beukes’ novel of the same name. It follows newspaper archivist Kirby Mazrachi (Elisabeth Moss), who is hunted by a serial killer and left for dead. Though she survives, Kirby is disturbed by the attack and the killer’s presence. Kirby starts having unusual and scary experiences as she rebuilds her life. She sees things and remembers events that never happened. Kirby realises the killer has altered her reality and must stop him before it’s too late.

Shining Girls is a spooky show about pain, memory, and identity. It’s also a suspenseful show with many surprises. Critics lauded the show’s intriguing plot, great performances, and novel premise. Elisabeth Moss’s Kirby performance has been called “captivating” and “heartbreaking.” If you like thrillers, suspense, or strong female leads, watch Shining Girls!

When Harper commands Klara at the end of episode 6, she gets annoyed and starts to inquire Harper about all the lies he’s been feeding her with. She also inquires about the handkerchief, but Harper tries to sooth Klara and pursues a romantic relationship with her. Harper tries to be at peace with Klara but when things get heated, he murders Klara!

Shining Girls Season 3: Will it Happen?

(updated 26/9/2023)

There have not been official announcements from the makers nor has the series been renewed yet. But it looks like a third season is highly likely to happen.

In June 2022, Speaking to The Wrap Elizabeth Moss who plays Kirby in the series said: “Personally speaking, just honestly, I feel like there’s more story to tell,” she added. “I think that sometimes with the first season, you’ve just given everybody a lay of the land. And then in the second season, you get to actually get down to business and have some fun. So I would be interested in ‘where do we go now’ and not having to explain the world, but getting to go deeper into it.

With that said, fans probably might have to wait for some time for an official confirmation.
