Nanbaka is a Japanese comedy anime based on a manga series also titled as “Nanbaka- The Numbers” penned and illustrated by Sho Futamata. With the popularity gained by the manga series, an anime adaptation by Studio Satelight was launched on October 4, 2016.

The anime series has so far released a total of two seasons back to back with no gap in between. However, a third season is yet to be released and fans are anxious to find out why the Studio is taking a long time to come out with another sequel. Here’s what you need to know about season 3 of Nanbaka.

About the show

The series follows four idiotic men namely Jyugo, Rock, Nico, and Uno who are authorized to Nanba prison also known as one of the most dangerous prisons in the world. Jyugo, who tried to escape from the prison, added a few more years to his serving time; Uno, a gambling addict who fancies women; Rock, who loves eating and fighting; and lastly, Nico, an ex-druggie who appears to be an otaku. The story focuses on the day-to-day activities of the jail’s inmates and the guards.

Will there be a Season 3 of Nanbaka?

The series is neither canceled nor renewed by the studio. It’s also not known whether there’ll be a third series of this funny show.

Moreover, the first two seasons were entirely funded by Comico. However, that isn’t the case for the third installment which is why the anime series hasn’t gotten a season 3 till now.

For the anime series to return, Nanbaka must enter the top 10 on Comico. So, it’s not all despair as there is still a slight chance for season 3 to happen.

When is Nanbaka Season 3 Releasing?

The first season aired on October 4, 2016, and ended on December 27, 2016. The second season was launched on February 14, 2017, and ended on March 21, 2017.

As of now, we haven’t heard anything from the producers. Comico never really funded the third series. For the show to continue, Sho Futamata had to have at least a specific number of fans, unfortunately, that did not happen. Sho couldn’t find any other studios who would want to continue the show because they simply stated “Her characters weren’t flashy enough”.

At this point, we’re not so sure if season 3 will happen. Even if it does happen, it will probably take about 2-3 years.

Nanbaka season 3 might be canceled: Here’s why

It appears like the anime series’ developers are still waiting for the manga to provide more material. For the third season, they now only have two volumes, which is insufficient.

It’s possible that this is the reason the creators decided to cancel the Nanbaka manga series and end it in the same place that so many adaptations do: with a non-ending. I never anticipated Nanbaka leaving any of its loose ends unresolved, even though it became clear as the episode count decreased that it wouldn’t be able to do so.

Is Nanbaka worth watching?

This anime is one to watch if you want to laugh out loud while watching. In the second season, it becomes more serious while keeping its humour. The animation is beautiful. I urge everyone to watch the series, as it’s highly contagious!

Cast & Characters of Nanbaka Season 2

The four central characters are–

  • Jyugo is voiced by Yūto Uemura (Japanese); Daman Mills (English)
  • Uno is voiced by Tetsuya Kakihara (Japanese); Alejandro Saab (English)
  • Rock is voiced by Airu Shiozaki (Japanese); Jarrod Greene (English)
  • Nico is voiced by Daiki Kobayashi (Japanese); Justin Briner (English)

Nanbaka Season 3 Plot: What to Expect?

Plot details are not known. It’s also unclear if a third season will happen. The manga series has eight chapters in total. The first six chapters were covered in the first and second seasons of the anime series.

If you want to know what happens next, start reading from chapter 7.

Stay tuned for more information!
