Mr. Inbetween was deemed one of the best Australian television series that was ever launched. But unfortunately, the series came to an end after airing the third and final season.

Created and written by Scott Ryan who also stars as the main lead in the show is an Australian crime drama TV series that was released on September 25, 2018, on FX in the US and for the Australian viewers, it was released on October 1, 2018, on Fox Showcase. The program is an adaptation of the movie ‘The Movie’ which was released in 2005.

The series is heavily praised for its well-crafted plot and outstanding performance by Scott Ryan. As per The Hollywood Reporter, it was one of the greatest shows released in 2018. Below we have compiled all that you need to know regarding the fourth season of Mr. Inbetween.

Will There Be a Season 4 of Mr. Inbetween?

Sadly, there won’t be a fourth season of Mr. Inbetween and this was confirmed by showrunner and actor Scott Ryan that the series has ended.

In an interview with News.com.au in May 2021, Scott Ryan disclosed that he was prepared to end the story after season 3.

“I’m still getting better as a writer and as an actor. This was my first professional gig, but I feel like I haven’t hit my stride yet,” he said to the publication.

“The best is down the road and that’s exciting,” he added.

Mr. Inbetween Season 4 Release Date: When Is It?

As mentioned above, the Australian series Mr. Inbetween has come to a natural ending after closing the chapter with its third and last season.

Mr. Inbetween was initially commissioned for Australian channel FX as its main original series production but premiered on Showcase following the departure of FX Australia between commission and release. The shooting was done in multiple places in Sydney.

The second season was renewed on October 9, 2018, and aired on September 12, 2019, while the third and final season was renewed on May 26, 2020, and was launched on May 25, 2021. The series was completed on July 13, 2021, after producing a total of three seasons and an overall twenty-six episodes.

So as the series wrapped for good, a fourth season won’t happen nor will there be any release date available.

Mr. Inbetween Season 4 Expected Plot

Ray decides to sell his house. He takes Brittany to meet Bill for the first time, now seemingly at peace with him. As he sets up his trailer out in the wilderness, Gary informs him that his pornography business has taken off. Freddy sends Ray to go look for Alex, who has resurfaced, and he takes Dave with him, only to be ambushed by Rafael and two of his men. They shoot Dave, who dies of his injuries after begging Ray to take care of his young son. We may expect that the writers would continue the same story with a crisp.

Mr. InBetween Season 3 Recap!

While the show Mr. Inbetween ended long ago, we still remember everything from the show. The show’s main plot takes place in Sidney with the protagonist, hitman Ray Shoesmith. Shoesmith balances family and crime. He helps his daughter Brittany, ex-wife Jacinta, and girlfriend Ally, as well as his terminally sick brother Bruce.

Ray decides to sell his home, move into a camper in a remote location, see his father, and tell Brittany that he won’t be around for some time for unknown reasons. Freddy gives him a task to look into a biker in the same remote area, and Dave accompanies him as support. Since Freddy was forced to decide between handing Ray up or being killed by Rafael, it turns out that he has set Ray up.

The situation quickly turns into a large-scale shootout, during which Ray attempts to run, loses Dave, accidentally ignites someone, and goes on a rampage, resulting in Rafael’s death and an unexpected respite for Freddy. Uncertainty surrounds why Freddy is still alive, but Ray appears to have come to the conclusion that killing Freddy would only prolong the never-ending cycle of retaliation and betrayal. He is pleased to stay in Freddy’s dreams instead, suggesting that he would rather be a ghost than indeed kill Freddy.

Ray is a cab driver with a belly and long hair in his retired status. His most recent fare seems to be going after him, either because they were paid to do so or because they’re just sick. Ray took a break, but it’s unclear if he still has what it takes to survive. Recently, crime dramas have become popular. Although such shows generally have a similar premise, this show’s story is unique. Action, thrills, and drama abound—do watch it!

Mr. Inbetween Season 4 will not happen!

(updated 11/12/2022)

Series creator Scott Ryan confirmed himself that the third season of Mr. Inbetween was the final outing.

In an interview with MediaWeek, Ryan made clear: “It feels so good. I have had enough of him.”

“He has been around since about 1998 or 1999 which means it’s been about 23 years.

“So I am sick and tired of him and can’t wait to get rid of him.”

It was solely Ryan’s decision to end the series after just three seasons.

“After season two I kind of thought well, you know, it is probably time to wrap it up now,” he disclosed to MediaWeek.

So could we still see Ray Shoesmith? Or is this the end of him? “Who knows mate, Ray Shoesmith could pop up anywhere so people should best be careful I guess,” Ryan added.

The series might have ended for good but fans are hopeful to see Ray Shoesmith in the near future for now, the chapter is closed.

How many episodes could there be in season 4?

If the makers decide to follow a similar pattern, season 4 may also comprise 9 episodes. However, there hasn’t been an official update yet.
