Extraction which is the most-watched film on Netflix in 2020 is reportedly coming back with a sequel.
As per Deadline, a sequel is scheduled to arrive soon! Joe Russo who wrote the previous movie will once again return to his writing duties along with actor Chris Hemsworth and the filmmaker Chris Hargrave.
“The arrangement for me to write Extraction 2 has been finalized, and we are in the early phases of conceptualizing what the tale may be,” Russo said to the sources. “We haven’t decided whether that plot will go ahead or go backward in time yet,” he added. “We left a large question mark after the film, which leaves the spectator with many questions.”
However, due to Covid 19 pandemic restrictions, the production of the upcoming sequel will now occur in the Czech Republic instead of Sydney, Australia, as initially planned.
Extraction 2 Release Date: When Is It Premiering?
It’s difficult to predict a specific release date at the moment but we do know that filming has wrapped.
On March 26, 2022, Chris Hemsworth posted a short video on his Instagram along with a caption that reads: “That’s a wrap! Another ‘Extraction’ film down. Shaping up to be an epic franchise which has only been possible with the blood, sweat, tears, and passion of our amazing cast and crew.” Massive thankful to everyone who’s been with us through this journey, and cheers to many more, much love team. We can expect Extraction 2 to come out during the Spring / Summer of 2022.
The Cast of Extraction 2
It’s obvious that Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Tyler Rake. However, It’s not known if all of the supporting characters will return in the sequel but it’s been confirmed that Adam Bessa will reprise his role as Yaz Khan, Pankaj Tripathi as Ovi Mahajan, Patrick Newall in the role of Seb, and Rayna Campbell as Ruthie but for sure the viewers will be introduced to a few new faces including Tinatin Dalakishvili in the role of Ketevan, and Armen Gray.
The Plot of Extraction 2: What To Expect?
The exact plot details are not revealed but in the sequel, it’s expected that Tyler will once again be assigned on a new mission. However, the ending in the previous movie left many viewers confused as some believed that Tyler had died. The director himself Sam Hargrave disclosed that they had originally planned to end the story with the death of Tyler but it seems things took a different turn.
Hargrave explained, “We had a version of the movie [in which he died] that we tested extensively, and it wasn’t unexpected that many people wanted him to survive, and other people wanted him to die,” as per the director, “People were torn; it was almost like a battle to the death. Without sacrificing the integrity of the tale, we aim to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. As a result, we believe that creating an ambiguous conclusion is a reasonable compromise.”
In the last moment of the first film, the shadowy figure seen by Ovi is presumed to be none other than Tyler who is believed to have survived the life-threatening situation. But we’ll have to find out in the upcoming sequel.
