Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a sci-fi anime series. It premiered on September 13 and is one of the most-watched series of 2022.
The futuristic show is set in the world of CD Projekt Red’s popular RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. It was developed by Japan’s Studio Trigger. The acclaimed animation studio behind Kill la Kill, Inferno Cop, Little Witch Academia, and more. So far there’s only one season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Will there be a season 2 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners?
While CD Projekt Red has expressed plans to expand the world of Cyberpunk 2077, as of yet the series hasn’t received the greenlight for season 2.
Netflix, Studio Trigger, and CD Projekt Red haven’t announced any plans regarding the second season of the sci-fi series. The anime has always been advertised as a standalone story, and Studio Trigger is known for producing anime shows that only last for one season.
According to Honma, Edgerunners was planned as a standalone project from its inception. “However, just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work, so there’s no such thing as ‘we are actually working on Season 2 in the background’,” the exec said.
“I personally would like to continue to work with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future, partly because we have received very good feedback,” Honma added. “Even if we could make more anime in the future, I don’t know if it would be Season 2 or something completely different.”

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season two plot: What to expect?
In the first few episodes, we are introduced to a street kid called David. His mom’s name is Gloria. She’s always overworked and ends up passing away after a car accident.
Grief-stricken and beaten by bullies, David decides to get implants to enhance his body. However, those implants belong to a psychotic man. He was named James Norris. And now, there are concerns that David could adopt some of his psychotic traits.
Before any of this transpires, David meets Lucy and her gang. They want the implant inside of David. But he compromises with them. Thus, deciding to work one gig at a time. And to pay them back instead.
With Maine watching over the group, the anime moves into a more episodic structure. David learns the ropes. He’s trained by Lucy. And gets to know the rest of the group.
He takes out targets along the way. Everything is then brought together nicely during one last mission. It is stretched across a couple of bombastic, high-action eps to close the show out on a high.
