Bad Moms is a movie about a trio of unacknowledged moms. Tired of their exasperated lifestyle, they changed their way of living and decided to enjoy life to the fullest without a care in the world. The first movie premiered in 2016 collected $183 million followed by the second movie which is a sequel to the first movie titled “A Bad Mom’s Christmas” released in 2017 raked in a hefty amount of $130 million. Although the first film did much better in terms of box office collection, both films received positive reviews from the audiences and critics. The two Bad Moms movies were helmed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.
After witnessing the popularity of the second film which received tons of love from the viewers, the filmmakers of the Bad Moms franchise announced another sequel in April 2019. The third sequel was officially titled “Bad Moms’ Moms.” The upcoming movie will portray the lives of the original trio moms’ mothers; the grandmothers. It is confirmed that the upcoming movie will cast Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines and Susan Sarandon. It is not known whether the ultimate trio, Milia Kunis (as Amy), Kristen Bell (as Kiki) and Kathryn Hahn (as Carla) will return for the third movie nor has it been confirmed yet but we do hope to see our favourite trio return on the screen once again.
Release Date
There is no official news regarding the release of Bad Moms’ Moms. The leading roles for the upcoming film have been already confirmed but there’s no information when it will be released. It was also confirmed that previous directors for both movies, Jon Lucas and Scott will not return for the third film.
The timeline for the release is unpredictable. Covid-19 pandemic got in the way impacted production schedules and messing up the plans which caused further delays for the initial release date.
As of now, the filmmakers have not given any updated on the status of the upcoming film but we’re expecting Bad Moms 3 to release by the end of 2022 or sometime in 2023 although we’re not so sure about this either, it’s just a rough idea. Hopefully, we get an announcement soon.
What we know so far
Academy Award Winner Susan Sarandon told the US weekly that she is excited to start working in the third instalment of the series. She said, “I hope they get that script together. We had so much fun. Those ladies are just a blast and so fun to work with. So I hope so.” Sarandon went on explaining that the movie was scheduled for filming but everything was put on hold due to the ongoing pandemic. She resumed, “So, I don’t even know. You are reminding me I should ask my agent what’s going on with that.”
Though the actress didn’t give us many details, it’s very much clear that she’s very much looking forward to reprising her role in the third movie, Bad Moms’ Moms. She said, “When you get in a project where everybody is very professional, and especially all women that are pretty unusual, and that you know are good with this particular genre then it’s really just fun. And I was looking to have a good time, really.”
As for the storyline, Bad Moms 3 officially titled Bad Moms’ Moms will focus mainly on the grandmas, badass grandmas. Aside from this, plot details have not been revealed yet.
Bad Moms 3: Will it Happen?
Unfortunately, there haven’t been any newer updates concerning the threequel to Bad Moms three. However, Stx did announce that they plan to continue with ten more Bad Moms films when the first movie became a massive hit back in 2016. Following the tremendous success of the first film, a sequel was released just over a year later in November 2017.
Considering the early announcements about a threequel, fans expected that the much-awaited third movie will be out by the end of 2022 or early 2023. However, it looks like we won’t be seeing it in the theaters anytime soon. We believe that Covid-19 thwarted the plans of producing a new movie and probably the filmmakers and the crew are currently on hiatus due to the unavailability of the stars as they are busy with other projects.
So we have concluded that an exact release date for the threequel is not known as it is uncertain when it will happen. But if a new movie does indeed happen, it mainly concentrates on Cheryl Hines, Susan Sarandon, and Christine Baranski or it could entirely introduce the viewers with a new cast lineup. Stay tuned!
Will there be a part 3 of Bad Moms in 2023?
Producer Suzanne Todd, as the second movie was making its run at the box office, teased that fans were already asking for a third movie long before it was officially announced:
“When we showed it in previews, there was some crazy percentage of people who said, ‘Please make a third movie as soon as possible.’ Because there is kind of a jumping-off point at the end of the movie for maybe what you would do if you were going to do another movie.”
The studio likely would have preferred to get it done sooner, but the pandemic upended things. Susan Sarandon, in an interview with Us Weekly in June 2021, said the following:
“I hope they get that script together. We had so much fun. Those ladies are just a blast and so fun to work with. So I hope so… They were just kind of starting to figure it out and then Covid hit. So, I don’t even know. You are reminding me I should ask my agent what’s going on with that.”
