The cape superheroes like Superman, Batman and even Wonder Woman have had long lasting impact on the heart of their fans. Whether be it through the comics based on them or their series and movies. Fans still wait to see them in action. In fact, Barbara Gordon or call her the Batgirl was too all set to show some action on the big screen to its fans in its very own movie, Batgirl.
However, destiny had other plans for the movie. It never came out on the big screen to meet the fans despite having completed all its work done to arrive in theatres.
The Batgirl Movie and Its Unfortunate Fate
The cape superhero of the Gotham City, Batman has been one of the much loved DC character of all time. Having arrived in DC Comics and movies too for years. The character is still very much popular among all and has inspired video games too. Although, that doesn’t seems to be the case with Batgirl.
Batgirl is female version of Batman in a way that can be seen in the DC comics too. But it didn’t get the privilege to come up with its movie. When it was finally time for the Batgirl to have its transition from a comics to a movie actually. Things didn’t work in the favor of the Batgirl. Though the movie was all set to be waiting for a release date to finally appear on the big screen. Warner Bros. axed the film for an undefined time period.
Actress Leslie Grace had starred in the Batgirl movie playing Batgirl/ Barbara Gordon. Which was slated to arrive by the end of 2022 on HBO Max but never came after the unexpected decision of the Warner Bros. Fans of the movie still wait for its unfortunate fate to change.
Will Batgirl ever revive for the fans after the movie’s cancellation?
It was indeed unfortunate to have a movie starring amazing cast like Leslie Grace, Micheal Keaton, and Brendan Fraser to be called off. But the question that still continues is whether Batgirl will ever see the light of the day or not. Well, no one knows that.
The Co-chairman of the DC Studios, Peter Safran had though hinted about the fate of the shelved Batgirl movie in an interview to Deadline. As he said that the Leslie Grace starring movie was “not releasable”.
Safran stated the reason behind it as “the team made a bold decision to cancel it, because it would have hurt DC and those people involved”. In fact, Leslie on hearing the cancellation of the movie told to Variety that it felt to her like “deflating a balloon”.
In on of her Instagram post, Grace had expressed the pride she felt with all the love and hard work she and her Batgirl team had put in the film for months. She had even thanked the Batgirl fans for their love and support for the film that didn’t see the light of the day unfortunately.
