Know Everything About Netflix’s Upcoming Original Series- Heartstopper
Netflix, the giant streaming platform is continuously bringing original and creative content to its viewers. Soon, it will be airing a modern teenage romance series, Heartstopper. If you have not heard about it yet, then you are missing out on something engaging and beautiful.
Heartstopper is a tale inspired by Alice Oseman’s graphic series that revolves around two teenage schoolboys, Nickel Nelson and Charlie Spring who fell for each other. It is based on themes of affection and love and acceptance of your true self. Executive producer, Patrick Walters takes pride in that the series will do the incredible task of putting smiles to many faces.
While Oseman is thrilled to bring the story of her beloved characters to the world, here’s everything we know about the plot, release date, and cast so far:
Heartstopper’s Release Date
In January, Netflix revealed its plans to showcase this LGBTQ series, however, the cast was not disclosed until recently. With the filming yet to start, it seems that the fans will get to see the book’s television adaptation by 2022. Heartstopper is an eight-episode series with a run of half an hour for each.
Unveiling Heartstopper’s Plot
Heartstopper is likely to incorporate events and characters from Oseman’s book by the same name. Having said that, fans might witness slight variations in the plot tread. Heartstopper goes beyond a tale of two boys.
While Nick Nelson is a generous and amiable boy, Charlie is an overthinker who openly accepts his sexuality. The latter has a soft corner for Nick and feels like a distant dream come to reality when Nick also develops a strong liking for him. The story covers a gamut of issues like mental health and embracing one’s sexuality and individuality.
Heartstopper’s Cast
Heartstopper auditioned a lot of 10,000 participants before zeroing in on its cast. The Rocketman fame, Kit Connor is one of the series’ lead casts. He will play Nick opposite Joe Locke, who will be seen as Charlie. Alice Oseman is glad to make Joe and KIt part of the Heartstopper universe. She believes that their talent and passion will bring life to the roles.
In addition to these, William Gao plays Tao, Corinna Brown as Tara, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy, Cormac Hyde-Corrin as Hary. The series will also see some characters like Isac and Imogen played by Tobie Donovan, and Rhea Norwood respectively. Game of Thrones’s Young Eddard Stark is going to appear as Ben.
Fans might be disappointed to not find a few names from the comic series such as Aleda and Oliver. And Tori, Charlie’s sister’s cast is also a mystery currently.
Alice has immense faith in the cast and believes that together they are going to retell the decade-old story. She shares her pleasant experience of engaging with the characters in person. Oseman says, “Each actor shall shine.” And we truly hope so.

Update- September 20, 2021 Filming for the upcoming Netflix show ‘Heartstopper’ began in April 2021. It was reported that filming is likely to wrap up by the end of the year and if we’re lucky enough, the upcoming show will get a release by next year most probably around mid-2022 or earlier than that.
The author of Heartstopper Alice Oseman tweeted that the comic book will be on hiatus as she’s currently busy shooting for the live-action adaptation of Heartstopper. It’s official, Kit Connor and Joke Locke are cast as Heartstopper’s Nick and Charlie.
The rest of the cast has been introduced too. Now, all we have to wait for is more updates and an official trailer or some kind of a teaser maybe?
