Will we get yet another season of The New York Times’ best-selling book-based series, A Spy Among Friends?
A Spy Among Friends is a six-episode limited series based on Ben Macintyre’s 2014 best-selling novel. The series follows the story of a dramatized real-life friendship of Nicholas Elliot (played by the handsome Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actor Damian Lewis) and Kim Philby (played by Emmy winner Guy Pearce (Jack Irish, Mare of Easttown).
Emerging into a chain of events that not only destroys Nicholas and Philby’s friendship but also deal a heavy blow to British and American intelligence operations, Philby turns into the most notorious Soviet double agent.
Also starring alongside Lewis and Pearce is Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland, Line of Duty). The series made its debut at the end of last year, on December 8, 2022.
What’s “A Spy Among Friends season 2” status look like?
Here’s what the showrunner said:
“It’s a new beginning for our service, as we introduce MGM+ and its distinctive brand promise to viewers on January 15. MGM+ will deliver on its iconic and beloved studio legacy, with cinematic, sophisticated, and transportive storytelling that audiences love,” said Wright in a statement during the TCA 2023 Press Tour.
“We are growing our rich library of content, consisting of original television series and blockbuster films that celebrate the MGM brand.”
“A Spy Among Friends” is slated for a March 12 premiere, Wright announced.

The official synopsis for A Spy Among Friends says: “The six-episode series dramatizes the true story of Nicholas Elliott and Kim Philby, two British spies and lifelong friends.
“Philby was the most notorious British defector and Soviet double agent in history. This is a story of intimate duplicity; of loyalty, trust and treachery. Philby’s deeply personal betrayal, uncovered at the height of the Cold War, resulted in the gutting of British and American Intelligence.”

Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce revealed how the late Helen McCrory ensured Lewis’ continued involvement after her passing…
Pearce told RadioTimes.com: “I worked with Helen on Count of Monte Cristo 20 odd years ago, but I didn’t know Damian, and I don’t even think they were together. And so she was a bit of a connector between Damian and me in a slightly surreal way.”
“She knew that he was perhaps going to do this show. She had said to him, ‘Oh, I know Guy; I worked with Guy years ago.’ And then, sadly, Helen, as we know, passed away before we started the show. I was really surprised Damian was going to continue on and do it, but he did. And he said to me, ‘Well, no, Helen said to me, “You better f***ing do the show.”‘
A Spy Among Friends Season 2 Potential Release Date
As per the creator of the show, the second season of A Spy Among Friends is slated to release on March 12, 2023 on ITVX. Before season 2 airs, make sure y’all have eaten the first season and left no crumbs, xD!

A Spy Among Friends is an ITVX exclusive, meaning Netflix does not (and will not) have the rights to stream the show.

A Spy Among Friends Season 2 Won’t Happen
Sadly, a second season of thriller series A Spy Among Friends won’t happen as it is considered a mini-series and was meant only for a single season.
It’s also been confirmed by showrunner Alexander Cary and the head writer that the show was simply intended as a Limited Series. Hence, season two will not be produced since the book that the is based on has been mostly covered.
