Tom Cruise is arguably the king of action movies, every action movie he has starred in has at least two or three “WTF scenes’’. Making his debut in the early eighties, with modest acting roles, Cruise’s rise in the industry isn’t a surprise to anyone as the work ethic of the good-looking actor is one of his admirable qualities. Known largely for his contributions in the action genre, Tom has acting range as seen in movies like Vanilla sky, Risky Business, Rain Man, and notably, Jerry Maguire is regarded as a classic, which landed him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. However, Tom as a spy is the Tom that most movie addicts love. What Mobile betting is to the New Online Casino, is what Tom Cruise is to Hollywood. He is unrivaled as a legit bankable name to star in any film.
Very few people would argue that the Mission: Impossible franchise is the best spy movie of the 21st century. One could say the man has tried to kill himself in every instalment of the franchise. He seems to outdo his stunts as the series progresses; from hanging from a helicopter to climbing up the tallest building in the world, every fan goes to see each release for the next death-defying outrageous stunt. The man known to perform almost all his stunts will be 60 years old in July, one wonders how long he can keep doing those crazy stunts he’s known for.
Of all his iconic roles, playing Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible franchise fattened his bank account and made him one of the greatest movie stars of all time. Cruise’s last on-screen appearance was in the last instalment of the franchise, Mission: Impossible – Fallout in 2018, which is the highest-grossing film of the franchise, with a total worldwide gross of $791.1 million. A few years back, Forbes had ranked him as the world’s most powerful celebrity, not bad for a man pushing 60 in an era of millennials and Gen Zers.
Every year since the pandemic hit has proven to be a challenging year for the movie industry as the world as a whole tries to come to terms with the new normal. After much delay, Cruise’s next movies; Top Gun: Maverick, the much-anticipated sequel to his 1986’s Top Gun, and the seventh instalment of Mission: Impossible will both be released this year, scheduled to hit the big screens on May 27 and September 30 respectively. DC and Marvel have played their part in making the action genre the most entertaining in recent years, but the monotonous stretch is begging for a buffer like a capeless action adventure movie.
Cruise’s name has to be in the first three on the top ten list of any moviegoer who is into the action genre. The man is near perfect in every action scene, training for many years to perform some of his stunts that would run for just five to ten minutes of a movie. Such dedication to each project is evident on the screen. No one leaves the cinema after seeing a new Tom Cruise’s movie feeling underwhelmed. It’s been three years since his last movie, and he has sorely been missed.
