It’s been over three years since the third season aired and since fans of True Detective have been wondering about the next season. It looks like fans need to wait for a while for the upcoming season.
Here’s what you need to know about season 4 of True Detective.
Is True Detective Renewed for Season 4?
Yes, True Detective was greenlit for a fourth season by HBO. However, it’s still in the works with Barry Jenkins serving as the producer.
Casey Bloys, boss of HBO was asked on the status of the series back in 2019, Bloys at that time stated that the ideas had been in preparation for the fourth season.
“On True Detective, we’ve been developing various ideas,” Bloys said. “Stay tuned on that one.”
While series creator Nic Pizzolatto also disclosed in 2019 that he had a terrific notion for the forthcoming season. However, he parted ways with the network inq 2020. It’s not known if Pizzolatto will return for the series’ fourth run but Bloys did reveal that HBO was checking what direction to carry for the series’ new season.
“It’s safe to say we’re working with a couple of writers to find that right tone and take,” Bloys explained at the time. “It’s definitely an area that could be very interesting and I think it would be interesting with a new voice. Quality is what’s going to guide us so if we end up with scripts that we do not feel are representative or are not high enough quality, we’re not going to do something just to do it.”
True Detective Season 4 Release Date
Reportedly, Issa López and Alan Page Arriaga have been appointed to jot down the series script for season 4 but when will the new episodes arrive? It’s still not known as the official release has yet to be revealed since it’s still in development and there are no production schedules marked at the moment.
However, if production kicks off by this year we can expect the fourth season to be released by mid-2023.
The Upcoming Cast of True Detective Season 4
The full official cast line has not been confirmed for now except for Jodie Foster who has been cast to play the lead role in the forthcoming season. She will also serve as an executive producer.
Each season has new cast members and this season too will introduce the viewers to a new batch of cast members. The names of the cast will likely be revealed in the coming days.
True Detective Season 4 Plot
As per Variety, the storyline of True Detective season 4 will be set in the Arctic, where the night lasts for more than 24 hours.
“When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (portrayed by Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (TBA) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
All three seasons of True Detective are available on HBO Plus. Season 4 will premiere on HBO Max.
