The toy story franchise has never disappointed us. It just keeps on getting better with every release. The last Toy Story 4 movie was released on June 21, 2019, directed by Josh Cooley. If we rewatch it, the ending of the movie seemed like the best one yet it’s just so satisfying you can’t keep gushing over it. The movie was indeed a global success and broke the box office record. Fans from all over the world couldn’t get enough of it. Now, that Toy Story 4 has come and gone, could we get a Toy story 5 in the future, maybe?
When’s Toy Story 5 scheduled to premiere?
Pixar has not formally announced the Toy Story 5 movie’s scheduled release date. However, we know Turning Red and Lightyear will be released in 2022. A film with no title is also slated for release in 2023. You see, Pixar movies take a while to make, and there has been no confirmation on this front, as of August 2022. Therefore, it may be anticipated that Toy Story 5 won’t be released for a while.
Who’s going to be in the cast of Toy Story 5?
There is no formal confirmation of Toy Story 5’s cast, as of yet. Thus, it is impossible to say for sure who will play which characters. Knowing this makes it clear that Toy Story 5 will follow the direction set by Toy Story 4, all of the movie’s key characters will return.
To see Buzz Lightyear in the fifth Toy Story film, Tim Allen has long favored the idea. Each Toy Story movie appears to have included a few more toys. For instance, Jessie was portrayed by Joan Cusack in Toy Story 2.
Trixie, portrayed by Kristen Schaal in the third movie’s plot, saw Bunny and Ducky in the fourth movie, performed by Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key, respectively.
With each Toy Story movie, new toys were introduced, which is how the Toy Story franchise’s canon expanded over time. So, if a Toy Story 5 is ever made, it will likely have new cast members playing the parts of new toys or characters.
Toy Story season 4 ending explained
Toy Story 4 takes place nine years after Toy Story 3. Bonnie attended kindergarten after inheriting Woody and the other toys from Andy. Woody is Bonnie’s favourite toy, but he worries she’ll forget him with new pals and toys.
Bonnie creates Forky from a spork and other trash on her first day of kindergarten. Lifelike Forky doesn’t realise he’s a toy and thinks he’s trash. Forky’s safety and happiness are Woody’s responsibility.
Forky falls out of the RV window during Bonnie’s family road trip. They become lost as Woody chases him. Bo Peep, a toy sheep Woody hasn’t seen in years, appears along the route. Bo Peep is a “lost toy,” meaning she’s freely roaming without a child. Woody is reluctant to join Bo Peep and the other lost toys, but he realises he must move on from Bonnie’s toy.
While Woody searches for Forky, Buzz Lightyear searches for Woody. Buzz loses at a carnival and meets Ducky and Bunny, soft toys. Ducky and Bunny assist Buzz in finding Woody, and they, together with Woody and Bo Peep, save Forky from a toy store owner who wants his voice box.
Woody stays with Bo Peep and the lost toys. His happiness doesn’t depend on being owned by a child. Finally, Forky accepts his role as a toy in Bonnie’s home.
Toy Story 4 is a touching film about friendship, love, and sorrow. It’s a suitable Toy Story ending.
Will all of the original voice actors return for Toy Story 5?
Most of the original voice actors returned for Toy Story 4, including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, and Annie Potts. However, some new actors were also added to the cast, such as Tony Hale and Christina Hendricks. So, we are assuming we could see all of these voice actors return for the fifth installment.
Possibility of Toy Story 5
Considering that Toy Story franchise or Pixar hasn’t been officially confirmed for another movie yet there is still a glimmer of hope for Toy Story 5 to happen anytime soon.
Here’s what Tim Allen has to say, “Once you’ve gotten to four, you’re passed that trilogy,” the voice of Buzz Lightyear told ET Online, he then further added, “so I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t do it, certainly.” Is he giving us a hint that Toy Story 5 will soon be on its way?

Looking back at the series of Toy Story 4, we saw Woody leaving Buzz and the gang and decided to stay with Bo. This could mean that the franchise left it off at a cliffhanger because there might be a possibility for another movie. Also, it took a decade for Toy Story 4 to finally come out with a movie. There’s no denying the fact that Toy story 4 was a massive success, and this could only mean one thing that is, we just have to wait patiently for another sequel. It may take years or it may not but let’s stay hopeful that the franchise makes an official announcement regarding the possibility of Toy Story 5 at the earliest.
Nevertheless, even the producer of Toy Story, Jonas Rivera wanted the characters to feel satisfied and complete. If in case, we get another sequel there are high chances that new characters will be introduced. With every ending of the Toy Story movie it makes us feel that there is always an end with a new beginning. Hopefully, Woody and Buzz who have been partners for so long get to stay together in the end, and perhaps this is what we will get to see in the upcoming sequel.
As for the release date of Toy Story 5, not much information is available, but it’s expected to arrive on June 16, 2023.
Toy Story 5 Plot: What to expect?
Toy Story 5 hasn’t received the greenlight yet. And, it’s absolutely unclear whether Pixar is even considering a renewal. That said, because there are no concrete plot details, we cannot really predict the plot for the 5th season.
However, given where “Toy Story 4” left off, season 5 could potentially explore many threads. In the film’s final moments, Buzz and Woody finally bid farewell to one another.
Buzz takes on a full leadership role. He takes it up alongside Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl. At the same time, Woody rides off into the sunset with Bo Peep. With Woody gone, Buzz Lightyear and the remaining toys will have to band together. They take care of Bonnie and help her grow up.
That leaves open an avenue for Buzz to step in as the leader of the toys. But, on the other hand, it could be interesting to move away from that particular group of toys. Woody and Bo are now living child-free lives out in the world. And, “Toy Story 5” could go even deeper into that mythology. An even deeper exploration of how toys live when they have no kids in their lives.
It’s also worth remembering that “Lightyear” is coming in 2022. This could open an entirely new avenue of “Toy Story” spin-offs.

Toy Story 5 is Officially Happening!

Story by Andrew Stanton, Josh Cooley, Dave Mullins, Nicole Perlman, Colin Bohrer, Matthew Aldrich, Irene Mecchi, Lee Unkrich, Mike Jones, and Pete Docter, the new film is set to be directed by Stanton and Cooley and screenplay by Mullins, Perlman, Bohrer with Stanton and Cooley. Helene Plotkin will produce the upcoming fifth installment alongside Karen Robert Jackson, Jonas Rivera, and Mark Nielsen. It will once again feature the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, Joan Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Andrew Stanton, and Tony Hale.
However, there has been no concrete information on what the fifth movie will be about since it’s not even in the works yet but rumor has it that the new movie will be in the works very soon though we do not know exactly when because the producers have not mentioned any schedule yet. But it is expected that Toy Story 5 will be out somewhere in mid or late 2023.
