Lizzy & Henry – you are my one love!
Literally, a Romeo and Juliet-style opposing houses and slowly falling for each other whilst holding onto the throne of England, The White Princess is a beautiful mini-series that highlights the historical picture with Jodie Comer (as Princess Elizabeth) and actor Jacob Collins-Levy (as King Henry VII).
In the eight-episode series, we witness that the marriage of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York effectively ends the Wars of the Roses. Uniting Lancaster and York, the war ends. However, their mutual enmity and distrust for each other prove threatening for both their marriage and kingdom! Okay, but can I just say that their chemistry was so incredible that it almost looked like the actors got closer as their relationship thawed? They make a handsome couple and I’d like to see their children and grandchildren later in future tv series (?)
Watch this fan-made edit and let me warn you beforehand – you’re going to be obsessed!
As interesting and exciting that the series is, it has averaged 4.8 million multiplatform viewers per episode, making The White Princess rank as a top 10 cable TV show and as the first Starz original series to attract more women than men. 55 per cent of the viewership came from women. The critical acclaim was positive for the series but will that suffice for the makers to renew The White Princess for a season 2?
The White Princess Season 2 Renewal Update
Are we getting another season of The White Princess? Speaking in a post on Twitter, Jodie who plays the character of Lizzie, makes it clear that The White Princess season 1 will be the final season of the series. But boy, what a last episode it was!
While it was painful to send two other people to the executioner, Lizzie’s choice was indeed a powerful one keeping her and her family’s future in mind. Setting the stage for the Tudor empire, The White Princess was literally a fine piece of historical drama that further blossomed with Henry VII and eventually to Henry VIII.
There are more stories that are left to be told but it is certain that it won’t directly be told by The White Princess. Before the series aired, it was announced as a limited series, and so, season 2 was never on the creator’s mind.
While viewership was solid for Starz on Sunday night, there was never much in the way of a demand to change that. And why would there be? If something is in fact working rather well, there isn’t quite a big reason for that to be changed around.
Playing the role of children of parents who were friends and enemies adds a great dynamic to the series…
In a sit and talk interview with the Paste Magazine, the stars of The White Princess were asked how it feels to portray the character of children whose parents were first friends and then enemies.
Answering this question, Jodie Comer replies, “it definitely adds a great dynamic to the series.Their relationship is such a big part of their life and they both realize that they have been brutal. Lizzy and Henry would just go out and do their own thing but their mothers were so sat on them, wanting the right thing for their house… so yeah, they’re very opinionated!”
Jacob Collins-Levy further elaborates and says, “they are very ambitious parents and i think in all of that situation, they come together and fall in love…”

Now that there won’t be a season 2 of The White Princess, are we getting any spin-offs in the future?
Well, yes. It is a thing to remember that while The White Princess has come to an end, the entire idea of the show isn’t buried forever. There are opportunities for the series to get a spin-off – because let’s face it, the plot was extremely gripping and we all love decades-old, enemies-turned-into-lovers historical drama romance stories.
Personally, I believe that we could enjoy seeing some sort of historical drama from Starz on an annual basis – kinda similar to what FX is doing with American Horror Story or Fargo. But as of now, we do not have any major updates regarding a spin-off.
