The Meg 2 officially titled “The Meg 2: The Trench” is a forthcoming science fiction horror-action flick with Ben Wheatley as the director on board.
The Meg was released back in 2018. The original movie was surprisingly a huge hit raking in a whopping $530.2 million worldwide at the box office.
Following the success of the first movie, it was announced by Warner Bro executive producer Catherine Xujun Ying that they were already working on the sequel in October 2018. However, The covid-19 pandemic was the sole reason why the filming was delayed.
It’s already been more than three years since the original movie came out but guess what? Star Jason Statham confirmed that shooting for the sequel is all set to begin by next year. Fans of the humongous shark film were delighted to learn the great news and are exceptionally looking forward to the sequel. Though we already know that it’s going to be a canon.
When is the Release Date of The Meg 2: The Trench?
It’s going to take a while before we see the movie since filming is yet to start.
According to Jason Statham in an interview he said:
“We’re gonna start shooting in January, if I get my dates right. Ben Wheatley is the director, I’m very excited to work with him. I’m thrilled to get going, it’s been a while. We’ve been waiting around for the right scripts to come in and the right director to turn up, and we’ve got all those things and they’re all stacked up now.”
Meanwhile Ben Wheatley will helm the upcoming horror action flick. Statham added:
“Yeah [Ben Wheatley’s] great. We have a great shorthand already. We’ve got similar taste. I like his movies, I think he’s a brilliant director. I think we’ve got a good shot at making something good.”
With that said, there’s a high possibility that The Meg 2: The Trench proves to be a good movie, and given how the first movie was a huge success, fans can not wait to see a well-known director like Wheatley taking the director’s chair for the much-anticipated movie.
As of now, the official release date of The Meg 2: The Trench is not available but, likely, the movie won’t be out until 2023 that is if production goes smoothly.
The Upcoming Cast of The Meg 2: The Trench
Jason Statham, the main character, is confirmed to reprise his role as Jonas Taylor in the upcoming movie. It’s not known whether the other stars will be joining him in the next sequel but we can expect to see Li Bingbing (as Suyin), Ruby Rose (as Jaxx), and Page Kennedy (as DJ) along with some other characters.
Meanwhile, Jessica McNamee has conveyed her enthusiasm for the sequel and her longing to start working with Jason Statham. Jessica plays the ex-spouse of Jason and she’s eager to get back to film the sequel although it is not confirmed at the moment. Speaking to Collider, Jessica McNamee discussed about her role and filming the sequel stating that:
“I don’t even know! I’m not across it. I should be. I’m a terrible person. I mean, that would be the dream. I would love to be involved. I had such a blast filming that movie. Jason’s great and the whole process was so fun. We got to shoot in New Zealand. I also heard they’re potentially shooting it in Australia, which would be amazing. It’s the only way I could get back into the damn country at this point!”
The Meg 2: The Trench Plot: What To Expect From The Storyline?
The exact plot details are not revealed so far, however, if we address the plot for the next sequel, then if you can think back correctly what happened in the final moments of the first movie is that it ended on a critical note that seemed like there were more megalodons deep inside the water. This indicates that there are more of these aquatic creatures that got loose from the trench and up for some fresh blood.
This leads to The Meg 2: The Trench with many other probabilities. So look forward to some more gigantic sharks and some gory scenes. Moreover, we’ll be seeing two megs as revealed by the director, Wheatley.
He stated, “It’s really exciting. It’s just action on a massive, massive scale… guaranteed, there will be a megalodon – maybe more than one.”
