Who would have thought that The Matrix film series that made its debut in 1999 would make a comeback let alone after 18 years! Indeed The Matrix was a huge hit back in the days which eventually led to the release of two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions in 2003 and the fourth movie titled The Matrix: Resurrections slated for a release on December 22, 2021. 

The announcement for the fourth film came as a surprise to many fans but at the same time, fans were thrilled as they could once again see Neo and Trinity, the badass duo sharing the same screen after many, many years. Warner Bros. announced the fourth sequel of The Matrix film series in August 2020. Fans are now curious to know if there’s more to it. As per reports, it may happen. Let’s find out below.

The Matrix 5’s future seems uncertain: Latest Updates!

On social media, a poster featuring Keanu Reeves’ Neo leading what appears to be a Matrix 5 is making the rounds. In the billboard, Reeves strikes a menacing attitude while seated on a sofa, sporting a Neo appearance. 

The billboard also announces the release date of The Matrix: Renegades, the newest chapter to the Matrix series, which is set for December 2024. A brief synopsis of the film was also supplied, indicating that it will depict newer planes of reality based on the events in The Matrix Resurrections.

Despite all of the excitement about Matrix 5, the poster is fake, and there are no current plans to expand the brand with a new film. Considering the varied reception The Matrix Resurrections received, it’s unclear if Matrix 5 will ever happen.

By the time The Matrix Resurrections ends, Trinity and Neo have defeated the analyst; nevertheless, a new threat has emerged when Agent Smith suggests that the analyst may return to his evil ways. Trinity and Neo want to shift the focus of the Matrix from being a violent environment to one that is peaceful.

Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait eighteen years for a new Matrix film, as they did between 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions and 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections. Do watch out for more updates!

The actor was asked whether or not a fifth movie is on the horizon for him and Carrie-Anne Moss, Reeves hysterically said, “What’s another one? Resurrections Redux.”

Reeves also indicates that Lana Wachowski will not be moving forward with another sequel or The Matrix 5. “Wachowskian! I don’t believe so. If I had to cast a ballot- No, not a ballot, a vote. I would say that Lana would not do another Matrix,” said Reeves.

The handsome actor also disclosed that he is willing to return if a fifth part of the movie happens. In a chat to Fandom, he said that he is very much down to do another movie if Lana is willing to. Reeves said, “I mean, if she wanted to do another story and wanted to include me I would be honored and grateful. And I’d like to see what happens to Trinity and Neo – and the world.”

Carrie-Anne Moss in an agreement with Keanu added, “Totally, of course … it would be amazing.”

However, it is uncertain that a fifth movie will happen but let’s hope that it will.

The Matrix 5: How is it going to be?

A fifth movie seems highly unlikely but on the off chance if another the movie happens, we have discovered that The Matrix 5 movie will be set up based on the ending of The Matrix: Resurrections. It’s most likely that the forthcoming movie will end on a major cliffhanger for further continuation of the story.  According to speculations, the last scene will feature Neo (played by actor Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (played by actress Carrie-Anne Moss) conversing with Neil Patrick Harris, whose role is still undisclosed. The duo will inform Harris that a new war is emerging after that the duo will take off. This very scene sets up for a possible sequel. It’s not confirmed if this is a scene from the final moments or mid-scene but it sounds legit as the official ending scene of the movie. Another news was that this very scene is evidently and deliberately setting up for a fifth instalment.

The Matrix 5: What to expect from the storyline

If The Matrix 5 happens for what we have learned, The Matrix 5’s plot will follow a similar concept of the fourth movie. Unfortunately, the plot for The Matrix: Resurrections is strictly kept secret but the stars have dropped hints on what to expect from the fourth movie. In an interview with actor Keanu Reeves, he revealed to the audiences that the fourth film will have a romance and much different from the past films. Meanwhile, Neil Patrick Harris also disclosed that he thinks the movie director, Lana Wachowski has heightened the visuals for the fourth film. 

With the fourth movie titled “The Matrix: Resurrections” setting up for The Matrix 5, we cannot help but feel anxious and excited at the same time as the story will be much different and unique than the previous movies and hopefully, the audiences love it as much as the original trilogy and look forward to fresh concepts as the filmmaker’s shifts into a whole new story with new visual styles.
