Back in 2019, David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! the movie took an unexpected turn which eventually turned out to be an incredible surprise hit. Most superheroes are often compared with the heroes in DC or the Marvel heroes, but The titular hero in the movie has their own charm and creative origin story. Now fans are anticipating the next sequel to be as good as the first one. The good news is that Shazam! 2 is already in development.
Superheroes the Shazam six are ready to take on! The first movie director, David F. Sandberg is also coming back to steer the sequel, and he’s been religiously providing a lot of fun-filled updates about the movie on social media platforms. He also gave us a brief update about the DCEU movie’s production. Although the sequel to 2019’s Shazam won’t arrive for another two years as production is still ongoing.
On Twitter, Sandberg shared a tweet that said, “Day 27 of Shazam 2. If this was Lights Out we’d be done today but this shoot, just like Shazam 1, is longer than Lights Out and Annabelle Creation put together.”
When is the release date for Shazam 2
The release date has been announced and fans couldn’t be more happier although we still have two more years to go. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to hit theaters on June 2, 2023.
Who are the casts of Shazam! Fury of the Gods?
Warner Bros. has not made any official announcements about the full cast of Shazam! Fury Of The Gods, and since it’s a sequel, we’re expected to see certain characters return to the screen in addition to Zachary Levi, the lead role. In March, it was also announced that Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu would be joining the sequel as the villain sisters. There have been many other casting rumors but so far Sandberg has not revealed any.
In February, he tweeted, “Not going to comment on casting rumors for several reasons. One being you can’t be sure about anything until it’s happened. Halfway through shooting Shazam the plan was still for Cavill to be in it. Scoopers could have scooped that and been right at the time but wrong in the end. Though I can confirm with ~90% certainty that Shazam will appear in Shazam 2. So if you’re a fan of that character you might enjoy Shazam 2.”
Here are the cast members expected to return in the sequel are the younger version of Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and his foster family, including Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer), Eugene (Ian Chen), Pedro (Jovan Armand), Darla (Faithe Herman), and Mary (Grace Fulton). The returning adult version of Shazamily will include Adam Brody, D.J. Cotrona, Ross Butler, and Meagan Good. Unfortunately, Michelle Borth, the former adult Mary, is replaced by Fulton.

The villain sisters will be played by none other than Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu, joining them on the cast is Rachel Zegler in an unknown role. Other than this, we don’t have much idea about the plot for the sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Hopefully, filmmaker Sandberg will be generous enough to keep us updated on his social media platforms as fans are curious to know what their favorite superheroes are up to.
