Both seasons 2 and 3 were renewed back in 2021 and were filmed simultaneously. Could this mean that the anticipated third season will be out anytime soon?
Based on an incomplete manuscript by Jane Austen of the same name and developed by Andrew Davies, the historical drama will bow out with its 3rd and final season. In the second season’s finale, it ended on a heartbreaking-suspenseful note and it’s no wonder why fans are anxiously waiting for the new episodes to be out ASAP! Sanditon Season 3 Release Date: When is it?
Currently, the official release date for the 3rd season of Sanditon has not been announced yet. The first season was released on August 25, 2019. The second season premiered on March 20, 2022.
We now know that seasons 2 and 3 were filmed back to back, and the upcoming final season will likely be out by the end of 2022 or in early 2023. An official announcement is expected soon from the showrunners concerning the air date.
The Cast of Sanditon Season 3: Who’ll be in it?
It’s expected that the main character will reprise their roles in the final series including:
- Rose Williams will play Charlotte Heywood
- Crystal Clarke portrays Georgiana Lambe
- Anne Reid will act as Lady Denham
- Kris Marshall will be back as Tom Parker
- Kate Ashfield will reprise her role as Mary Parker
- Jack Fox plays Sir Edward Denham
- Lily Sacofsky depicts Clara Brereton
- Rosie Graham in the role of Alison Heywood
- Ben Lloyd-Hughes plays Alexander Colbourne
- Alexander Vlahos will play Charles Lockhart
- Frank Blake depicts Captain Declan Fraser
- Maxim Ays plays Captain William Carter
It was confirmed by showmaker Justin Young that Tom Weston-Jones and Charlotte Spencer will not be returning as Colonel Francis Lennox and Esther Babbington respectively.
Talking to Decider, Young explained, “I don’t think it’s spoiling much to say, I don’t think we’ll see Lennox again in season 3. He’s kind of gone.
“I think Esther when we leave her at the end of season 2, I think she’s got everything she’s ever wanted. She’s happy, married, and now she has a child that she adores so I think that’s the end of Esther’s story as far as I’m concerned.”
Sanditon Season 3 Storyline: What to Expect?
In an interview with Masterpiece, series star Crystal Clarke was asked what the fans can expect, and her character, Georgiana. She said, “You’re going to see parties, you’re going to see glam. It’s exciting. It’s a highly caffeinated Sanditon. My hope for Georgiana is identity—I hope she figures it out. I hope she can learn and have more of an understanding of who she is, and not just through other people’s eyes. I hope that journey concludes her.”
Rose Williams who plays Charlotte added: “In Season 3, we see characters meeting with their unique challenges and having to dig into deep parts of themselves to find resolve. I hope they come together at the end and maybe even they get their happily ever after like we always wanted them to—an Austen ending like it’s tied in a bow.”
“I think Season 3 will bring even more excitement, romance, fun, and tears in both forms,” added Ben Lloyd-Hughes who plays Alexander. “I think one thing for sure is that this is not the end of the story. We know that 100%, and that is really exciting.”
