Oliver Travena is confirmed to have joined the cast of Red Sonja Reboot. Travena isn’t particularly known as an actor but he co-stars in the approaching movie “Wire Room” opposite Bruce Willis which is scheduled to release this September.
The actor will portray the role of Tr’aal, a gladiator-style warrior who accompanies Sonja in her battle against the wicked emperor. We’ve also learned that Millennium Media’s “Red Sonja” has officially commenced filming in Bulgaria. The film underwent quite a few changes in filmmakers and some various female leading roles, but it finally looks like the film has a female lead actress. Matilda Lutz will be seen playing the title role in the reboot movie which will be directed by M.J. Bassett.
Lutz will star alongside Wallis Day, Robert Sheehan, Michael Bisping, Martyn Ford, Eliza Matengu, Manal El-Feitury, Oliver Taravena and Katrina Durden,.
The upcoming reboot ‘Red Sonja’ is based on the comic book of the exact title from Dynamite Entertainment, and also Bassett’s dream project for a long time. In an interview with Deadline, the filmmaker said: “I’ve wanted to make a Red Sonja movie since I was a teenager – she has been a powerful presence for me and a character that I have always wanted to bring to the screen with my own voice and vision. When I met Matilda Lutz, I knew she had all the magic I was looking for and could see the complexity and depth she would bring to Sonja.”
The leading lady role in ‘Red Sonja’ was initially to be portrayed by Hannah John-Kamen, but due to conflicting schedules, she had to reject the role. It appears that it still worked out fine, alongside Bassett, Millennium Media’s boss Jeffrey Greenstein quickly praises the actress and the director. He said:
“This has been a long journey from script to screen and we are excited to go into production after assembling the best creative team, an amazing band of up and coming talent and a fun and fantastical world fueled by the Red Sonja IP. M.J. is an amazing filmmaker with fantastic vision and Matilda was absolutely brilliant in Revenge that we knew she was right for this role the moment we saw her – making them the perfect duo for Red Sonja.”
As of now, ‘Red Sonja’ doesn’t have an official premiere date, but we’re confident that it will come out on the big screens sometime next year.
