“Queen Sono” is a crime show created by Kagiso Lediga that aired at Netflix starring Pearl Thusi with six episodes in the first season. The series’ storyline revolves around an adult orphan who discovers her purpose of working for a spy agency, dedicating her life to protecting the entire African continent.
Will There be Queen Sono Season 2?
Netflix did make certain announcements.
“We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with season 2 of Queen Sono,” a Netflix spokesperson confirmed to Channel24.
Adding, “We are incredibly proud of the Diprente team for sharing their audacious vision and bringing it to life with Netflix. A huge thank you to our fans worldwide for the love shared for our first African Original series.
“Netflix is also grateful to the amazing efforts shown by the cast and crew for their stellar efforts in creating this show for our members around the world. We’ll continue to work closely with South Africa’s creative industry to keep producing more compelling ‘Made-in-South Africa’ stories.”
In a statement to Channel24, director and creator Kagiso Lediga said; “We wrote a beautiful story that spanned the continent but unfortunately could not be executed in these current trying times.”
Queen Sono Season 2 Cast
For the second season of Queen Sono, we can expect the return of almost all the cast members. Here’s who are expected to return:
- Pearl Thusi will return as Queen Sono with Vuyo Dabula (Shandu).
- Otto Nobela will return as Bula Bule
- Loyiso Madinga will return as Fred
- Connie Chiume will return as Auntie Nana,
- Khathu Ramabulana will return as William,
- Enhle Maphumulo will reprise her role as Nova
- Rob van Vuuren will return as Viljoen
- Abigail Kubeka will return as Mazet and
- Chi Mhende will return as Miri.
Is Queen Sono worth watching?
Queen Sono is an intriguing spy thriller series that isn’t trying to answer too many questions about the significance of life, which is sometimes exactly what you need. The storyline is fun and the characters are interesting. Overall, it’s definitely worth watching!
Queen Sono Season 2 Release Date
As stated earlier, Netflix has canceled the series Queen Sono after the first season aired. A statement from the director and creator Kagiso Lediga suggested it was pandemic-related.

Unfortunately, the synopsis for Queen Sono season 2 won’t be released as the series has officially been axed off. However, if the makers ever decide to pick up the series for a second edition, it may start from where the previous season left off.
