The stars of the hit series Normal People, Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar Jones, had a sweet reunion at the Vanity Fair and TikTok Vanities party celebrating young Hollywood on Wednesday night. The party, hosted by Mescal, Julia Garner, and Halle Bailey, was held at Mes Amis restaurant in Hollywood and featured a guest list of rising talents.
Mescal and Edgar Jones, who played lovers Connell and Marianne in the adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel, posed for photos together and shared a hug. The duo had previously reunited at the British Independent Film Awards in London in December, where Mescal’s latest film Aftersun won seven prizes including best British independent film.
Mescal is also nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Aftersun, a drama about a young couple dealing with the aftermath of a car accident. He told Vanity Fair that he was “overwhelmed” by the recognition and that he still keeps in touch with Edgar Jones. “She’s one of my closest friends,” he said.
Edgar Jones, who has been busy with several literary adaptations such as Where the Crawdads Sing and Fresh, also expressed her support for Mescal. “I’m so proud of him,” she said. “He’s such a brilliant actor and a wonderful person.”
The two actors have become fan favorites since Normal People aired in 2020, earning critical acclaim and several award nominations. They also sparked romance rumors, which they have denied. Mescal said that he values his privacy and that he tries to avoid social media. “I think it’s important to have a life outside of this industry,” he said.
Edgar Jones agreed, saying that she is grateful for the opportunities that Normal People has given her, but that she also wants to keep some things to herself. “It’s a balance,” she said. “You want to share your work with people, but you also want to have some boundaries.”
The Vanity Fair and TikTok Vanities party was one of the highlights of the Oscar week, showcasing the new generation of Hollywood stars. Other guests included Olivia Rodrigo, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and more
