Simu Liu, well-known all around the globe for her amazing performances in Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is all set to play a role in the Netflix AI thriller ‘Atlas’. Atlas is a sci-fi thriller film headlined by Jennifer Lopez.
Simu Liu has taken up the role of a villain opposite Jennifer Lopez, as per reports. Sterling K. Brown is also being featured in the film. However, his role hasn’t been disclosed yet.
Brad Peyton, who previously directed films such as Rampage and San Andreas, is attached to helm the project under Netflix with Aron Eli Coleite writing the most recent draft of the script.
Simu Liu is an amazing actor and his presence in the film alone is going to make everyone go GAGA! His role as Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a masterpiece! Liu is also attached to feature in next year’s Barbie as another variant of Ken, who is also played by Ryan Gosling.
As of 2022 reports, Simu Liu is also set to appear in Arthur the King (directed by Simon Cellan Jones) and One True Love (an upcoming romantic comedy film by Andy Fickman). With all of these projects, Liu’s career has been positively impacted. He is set to reprise significant roles in a lot of upcoming movies/series.
Liu delivered the goods in last summer’s Marvel pic Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The movies had one of the biggest openings, following the pandemic reset. It grossed about $432 million, solidifying Liu as a future building block of the MCU.
This latest edgy villain role is just part of how Liu has diversified his future slate with different roles in various genres. As aforesaid, next summer he gets to show off his comedic skills in the Barbie pic at Warner Bros. The movie also stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
Speaking of Sterling K Brown – he is gonna be featured in this upcoming comedy film – Honk for Jesus. The movie is pretty hyped up as of now and Brown’s presence will definitely make this one a super hit! Brown is also featured in the NBC drama This Is Us and Save Your Soul.
He also has multiple projects at amazon and the sci-fi pic Biosphere. He is currently in production on the Hulu limited series Washington Black. The series is also produced via his production company Indian Meadows Productions. He is repped by CAA, JWS Entertainment and attorney Gregory Slewett at Ziffren Brittenham.
Throwing some light on the film – Atlas follows a woman fighting for humanity while an AI soldier is determined to end humanity. It’s a fight between a woman and a soldier – one who’s fighting for humanity, the other who wants to end it. To outthink this rogue AI, Atlas must work with the one thing she fears most — another AI.
Atlas will be produced by Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell under Safehouse Pictures. Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina also serve as producers of the film. Peyton, Jeff Fierson, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are also a part of the production. Matt Schwartz co-produces the project with Courtney Baxter attached as executive producer.
