Conceived by Michael Petroni, ‘Messiah’ is an American thriller series that premiered its 10-episode series on January 1, 2020, on Netflix. The show stars Michelle Monaghan, John Ortiz, Mehdi Dehbi, Tomer Sisley,Melinda Page Hamilton, Stefania LaVie Owen, Jane Adams, Sayyid El Alami, Fares Landoulsi, and Wil Traval.
Although fans were looking forward to a second season, it looks like they won’t be getting any new season since Netflix decided not to continue the series after just one season.

Messiah Season 2 is Not Happening: Netflix Cancelled The Series
The series was officially canceled in March 2020. Despite the popularity of the series, the streamer chose to axe Messiah’s production after the first season due to controversies about religious grounds.
Star Wil Traval who portrays Will Mathers conveyed the news via Instagram. The post reads: “It’s a very sad day today. I have just received news from Netflix that there will be no season 2 of #messiah. I wanted to say to all the fans thank you for your support and love. I wish things were different.”
Why Was Messiah Season 2 Canceled?
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, “the company didn’t feel confident about producing another season of the show, which features an international cast and filmed in several countries, given the current state of the world”.
Nevertheless, its cancellation wasn’t because of scarcity of materials. Speaking to Collider about the fate of the series prior to Netflix cancellation, Petroni declared: “I’ve got a good idea. There are a couple of seasons where I absolutely know where the show goes.
“It’s interesting because it was such a massive undertaking to do this season, and yet when we finished editing it and we sat down and watched it, we got to the end of it and it felt like just the beginning. It really did.
“It was almost daunting to me that it felt like the beginning of the story.”
Show creator Petroni originally planned for more seasons of Messiah but sadly, this is the end of the show.
