The highly anticipated Moon Knight, an American television series, was declared as part of the MCU phase four. Moon Knight, a fictional character from a comic book, was created by Doug Moench and Don Perlman in 1975. The comic superhero is set to make its debut in a live-action show Moon Knight and is an upcoming television series on Disney+. The six-episode series will be directed by an Egyptian writer/director Mohamed Diab. The series is said to be heavily focused on Egyptian background, and no wonder Marvel permitted someone of that origin to narrate the story. Want to find out more about Moon Knight? Here’s everything we know so far about the much-awaited upcoming superhero series. Let’s break it down into details.
What is Moon Knight about?
The story revolves around Marc Spector, an ex-military and a former prizefighter, marine and CIA agent who found himself half-dead after his employer, Raol Bushman betrayed him when they fell upon an archaeological hole. Bushman’s motive was to loot the profit all by himself. As Spector lay unconscious, he was approached by an ancient Egyptian God Khonshu, who revived him from the dead in exchange for him to become his avatar. Soon after his resurrection he was granted superpowers and became the crime fighter known as Moon Knight. To hide his true identity, Spector created multiple identities. Sometimes he’s identified as the millionaire Steven Grant and a Taxi driver Jake Lockey for him to keep track of the criminals on the street.
When is it arriving?
Marvel hasn’t made any official announcement let alone a specific release date. But as far as we know, filming kicked off in late April 2021 for the upcoming series Moon Knight, so we expect the six-episode series to arrive on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
After the announcement for Moon Knight, Ms Marvel, and She-Hulk Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige disclosed, “Some characters we’ve announced like She-Hulk, Ms Marvel, and Moon Knight you will meet for the first time on a Disney+ show and then they’ll go into the movies but the MCU will now go back and forth.”
Moon Knight cast and crew
It has been confirmed that Oscar Issac will play the titular superhero Moon Knight.
Ethan Hawke, another cast that was confirmed will play the villain of the upcoming series. May Calamawy’s name is also mentioned on the series’ IMDb page, but we have no clue which role she’s set to play as of now.
As for the crew, Jeremy Slater is the head writer and executive producer, while directing responsibilities will break down between Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. Diab will mainly be dealing with the bigger share of directing, while other indie showmakers will step in to wind up for a few episodes.
