Locked Up is a Spanish drama television series also known by another name such as Vis a Vis in French which means “Face to Face” premiered on 20th April 2015. The first and second of the series was first produced by Globomedia and published by Spanish Network Antena 3. Soon after the second season premiered, Antena 3 decided to cancel the series and one year later, Fox Spain picked up the show and announced Locked up season 3 which was released on 23rd April 2018.

 

Locked up became one of the most-watched shows in its time slot. Later, the Network announced the fourth and final season of the series which was released on 3rd December, 2018. The giant steamer also purchased universal streaming rights for the series.

 

The series follows a young woman named Macarena Ferreiro who was sent to jail for tax invasions and goes on to portray the predicament of jail life and the corrupt system of the law. 

Locked up Season 5: Release Date

There is no release date available as the series was cancelled by the network. The fourth season was the final outing and therefore, there won’t be a fifth season of Locked up.

 

In 2020 a spin-off was released entitled “Vis a vis: El Oasis.” The show mainly centres on the characters of Zulema and Macarena. This was the final instalment of the series.

What happened to the cast of Locked up?

After the announcement of the show’s cancellation, many of the cast members moved on to work on other projects, this also caused major changes in the cast, especially in the third and fourth seasons. The production also shifted to a new filming site as the last studio was occupied by a new show, Money Heist also created by Alex Pina. Maggie Civantos, who enacted as the series protagonist in the previous two seasons, had her screen time lessened due to her obligations to another show, “Cable Girls.” 

 

Meanwhile, Maria Isabel, Alba Flores, Najwa Nimri, Laura Buena, Marta Aledo, and Berta Vazquez came back to the series as the main cast members.

What was the plot about?

The story follows a young woman named Macarena Ferreiro who falls in love with her superior and goes to the extent of committing multiple crimes just to win his love. Macarena was accused of tax invasions on four different occasions and therefore she was sentenced to jail and was sent to the Cruz del Sur Prison. She later faces emotional changes and was traumatised after facing the reality as a prisoner. She also doesn’t get along with her inmates, especially Zulema, who was deemed as the most dangerous among the other prisoners.

 

Macarena soon realizes that to survive the seven-year sentence, if she changes and evolves into a different person. However, her family has to pay a large sum of money to bail her out and they get involved to find a hefty amount of cash concealed somewhere when in conflict with Zulema’s lover, who will lead the Ferreiros family to a disastrous situation.
