Labyrinth 2: Is it happening?
It’s been over 36 years since the first movie ‘Labyrinth’ was released. Fans to this day are curious if there ever will be a sequel to Labyrinth. The answer to that is, yes it is officially happening. We can at least tell you this much but it will take time.
Labyrinth 2 was set to be directed and penned by Fede Alvarez, who had been working on the sequel since 2018 but even eventually decided to step away as he couldn’t shoulder the responsibility of helming an existing franchise with many fans who probably have high expectations.
Before backing out, Alvarez and Jay Basu (Spider Web) wrote the initial draft of Labyrinth 2. Speaking to movie web back in October 2018, Alvarez disclosed: “I never believe the script is actually complete. We do have a first version of it, we have a first version that I think is amazing… We’re gonna try to get there because that’s one that has such a beloved fanbase, me included in it, that I would never do anything that’s far from perfect. Or at least I’m gonna try to aim there. It will take some time because that’s not something you rush. It’s been enough years that I think no one should rush that one. We’re gonna try and get it right.”
So as of now, to helm the movie there is no director and is still without a script but we do believe that the second movie of Labyrinth will happen at some point.
Labyrinth 2 Release Date: When is it premiering?
As 2021 is already at its end, it is quite expected to either have any information released by the makers in 2022 or the release date of the movie will be in 2022. There has been no news regarding the trailer, teaser or the first look of the film yet. It is being assumed that as soon as the makers get a bit of clarity, fans might receive some confirmed or official news regarding the film.
The Cast of Labyrinth 2: Who is returning?
With the creation of a completely new plot, the cast has to be new. As soon as the execution of the making of the film begins, we are quite sure that the makers will find out the suitable artists for each role. The cast has not been decided yet. Therefore, there is no official news regarding that right now.
However, we do know that Jennifer Connelly, who appeared in the original movie is all set to return and play her role in the upcoming sequel but it’s not known if she’ll continue to play the same role as Sarah.
What happened at the end of Labyrinth: Ending explained!
Jim Henson directed Labyrinth in 1986. Sarah (Jennifer Connelly), a teenage girl, must journey through a magical labyrinth to save her infant brother Toby from Goblin King Jareth (David Bowie). Sarah is an imaginative storyteller who loves to construct amazing worlds. When babysitting Toby, she gets upset with his weeping and wishes him away. Sarah demands Toby come back after Jareth offers to take him permanently. Jareth agrees, provided Sarah can navigate his maze in 13 hours.
Sarah travels the labyrinth, full of bizarre and scary animals. She meets Hoggle (Brian Henson), a frightened dwarf who helps her negotiate the maze; Ludo, a compassionate giant who becomes her companion; and the Fireys, a gang of fire monsters who help her beat Jareth’s guardians. She overcomes her concerns and gains confidence as she navigates the labyrinth. She also develops affection for Jareth, who is not as bad as she imagined.
Sarah confronts Jareth in the labyrinth’s middle. Jareth challenges her to a riddle game when she denies Toby. Sarah triumphs, forcing Jareth to return Toby. She appreciates her brother more after returning home with Toby. She also discovers that love and inventiveness can transcend any obstacle.
Labyrinth 2 expected storyline
Alvarez had made it pretty clear that his vision for Labyrinth 2 wasn’t a reboot, but rather a sequel set several years after the original.
He referred to himself as a big fan of the material. The filmmaker told MovieWeb, “I’m a fan of the original and again, in this case, [a sequel is] something that I haven’t done,” he said. “But it’s a sequel to a classic and a continuation of that story… We had what I thought was this great idea to continue that story and jump so many years later and pick up that story now. We got really excited about that and we started collaborating with the Hensons.”
