Jumanji 4 is very much happening, but it’ll take some time till we’re finally able to see the movie.
It’s nearly two years since “Jumanji: The Next Level” was released on December 13, 2019. It was a massive box office success collecting over $798 million worldwide. It’s no surprise that the fourth instalment of the Jumanji franchise was confirmed.
Late Robin Williams paved the way to the world of Jumanji, a mysterious board game that takes you in a different world filled with adventures and mayhem, in the film Jumanji, released in 1995. After more than 20 years, two sequels from the original were released in 2017, “Jumanji: Welcome to The Jungle” and “Jumanji: The Next Level” in 2019, expanding the world of Jumanji and bringing in new faces Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, and Jack Black.
The film series has been a huge hit at the box office, raking in several millions of dollars, and it’s popular across the globe. So it’s a given that the franchise will move forward with the fourth sequel. But when is it going to hit the theatres? Here’s what we know about it.
Jumanji 4 is in the works!
According to Hiram Garcia, president of the production at Seven Bucks productions confirmed the news about Jumanji 4 was “100 per cent” coming about, disclosing the crew has “been discussing it.”
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Hiram said, “We’re in the process of moving that along, I can’t tell you anything, but we do have big plans for it, and that’s one of our favourite projects to work on, and that’s cooking away.” Another great news is, Sony is eager to work on the fourth instalment.
Jumanji 4 release date: When could we see Jumanji 4?
Currently, the official release date for Jumanji 4 has not been provided by Sony. The pandemic did take a tremendous toll on the production process, but we could expect the upcoming movie to arrive sometime in 2022 or early 2023 as the upcoming movie is in the development phase, and it might take a while.
Indeed the status of Jumanji 4 somewhat seem hazy; however, Hiram Garcia did give an update several months ago while talking with Collider and disclosed that the team is presently working on cracking the story.
He said, “That’s also in the hopper! We’re very focused on delivering the best version of that story. Obviously, when you’re fortunate enough to bring a team back together for the third time, you want to knock it out of the park. It’s important for us to deliver something big for the fans while still expanding on our Jumanji story. So we are drilling down deep and collaborating closely with our writers, director Jake [Kasdan] and producing partner Matt [Tolmach].”
The Cast of Jumanji 4: Who’s in it?
The official cast members have not been confirmed yet, but we’d expect to see Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Kevin Hart.
The real-world group of friends enacted by Alex Wolff, Ser’Darius Blain, Morgan Turner, and Madison Iseman are expected to return as well. And maybe Danny DeVito too.
Star Karen Gillan revealed that she had not heard about the sequel while talking to Collider. She said, “I actually don’t know anything about the next one. Nobody has spoken to me, so I think – I don’t know. I assume they’ll make one, and I don’t know how they’re going to tackle that. But I hope they make another one because it’s so much fun.”
Jumanji 4 Plot: What to expect?
Jumanji 4 will pick up the story from where the last sequel left off. In other words, the fourth sequel was set up by “Jumanji: The Next Level.”
In the last movie, we saw that after a handyman messes with the board game, not knowing what awaits, ostriches and other animals come out from the game. Like the original film, the jungle made it to the real world, and this time people were not getting sucked into the board game, bringing them to the Jumanji world. So, narratively speaking, the fourth instalment will occur after the last event, and great consequences await as animals have been unleashed from the game world.
Dwayne also teased that the fourth sequel’s villain could have links to avatar Jurgen the Brutal. He said, “Cool plot twist about JURGEN (for those who caught it) is he’s an actual avatar in the game, Meaning – SOMEONE is playing him. But who? That’s the big mystery. In the next JUMANJI, we’ll find out just who’s been playing the JURGEN THE BRUTE.”
