Indian-Malayalam language crime drama film Joji was released this year. The film is directed by Dileesh Potha and written by Syam Pushkaram. Drawing inspiration from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the film intrigued the audience with its plot. Joji film released this year on the OTT service Amazon prime video. The film was released on 7 April 2021. The shoot for the film was started last year in November in the suburbs of Kerala. The shooting concluded on 14Th January 2021. The production of the film was completed within two months
Joji: Plot
Joji’s film revolves around the life of an engineering dropout. He is the youngest son of a rich man. He dreams of acquiring more excellent fortune and becoming a wealthy NRI. Due to his behavior and academic scores, his father is convinced that he would not excel. His father is also convinced that he would never be able to achieve anything in his life. Driven by greed and ambition, Joj decides to execute his plan/ But an unexpected turnoff event happens in his family, which changes his life. His father, Panchal Kuttappan, is shown as a strict man. Joji’s two brothers Jomon and Jaison, lead a life of fear under their father. Kuttappan one day has a heart strike, following which he is paralyzed and admitted to the hospital. His brothers expect the passing of their father, and everyone in the family begins a stress-free life. They take the wealth of their father and spend it. The brothers then decide to sanction a surgery that is thriving on Kuttappan. Their father, now on the stage of recovery, is brought back home in a wheelchair. This gets everyone in the house to get back to their stressed lives. Kuttappan asks Joji about the money and ridicules him, which makes Joji enraged. He planned to kill his father and replaced his daily medications with lethal pills. His action is witnessed by Bincy Jaison’s wife, who does not speak about it as she and her husband secretly wish for Kuttappan’s death. Joji’s plan works and Kuttappan dies. Jomon, who becomes an alcoholic, bursts crackers at his father’s funeral, which gets the family caught in a controversy with the church priest. Jomon and Joji refuse the partition of their father’s wealth as they believe it would insult the departed soul. Ina turnover of events, Joji’s act of killing his father, is discovered, and he and Jomon engage in a fight which results in Jomon’s death. Jaison and the family find Joi’s religious behavior doubtful and question his involvement in Jomon’s death. Jomon’s son discovers that indeed Joji is the one who killed his father. Having no way out, Joji attempts suicide but survives. He is paralyzed and admitted to the hospital. The movie ends with Joji admitting his crimes by blinking his eyes.
